Fortnitemares 2026: Epic Games Adds Long-Awaited Slasher Skins

Epic Games launches Fortnitemares 2026, bringing iconic slasher skins Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger to the Fortnite Item Shop.

Fortnite players have waited years for this moment. Epic Games just went live with the Fortnitemares 2026 update. It is easily the most ambitious Halloween event in the game’s decade-long history. This time, the developers did not hold back. They finally delivered the classic horror icons fans have spent years begging to see on the island.

The Icons Arrive in the Item Shop

The centerpiece of the update is the newly refreshed Item Shop. For years, licensing issues kept horror’s most famous slashers out of the battle royale loop. Not anymore. The long-rumored Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th and Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street have officially made their debut.

“We’ve been working on these partnerships for a very long time,” says an Epic Games representative who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “Getting the rights to these characters took years of negotiations. We wanted to make sure we did them justice, down to the last pixel.”

And they did. The attention to detail is remarkable. The Jason Voorhees skin comes with two distinct styles: his classic 1980s look and a battle-damaged, water-logged variant. His back bling is a camp counselor sleeping bag, which reacts whenever you secure an elimination. Freddy Krueger is equally impressive. He features his iconic burned skin, dirty fedora, and striped sweater. His harvesting tool is, of course, his razor-sharp clawed glove.

Pricing and Bundles

Buying these skins won’t break the bank, but it will cost a decent chunk of V-Bucks. Epic has structured the shop to offer both individual items and discounted bundles:

  • Individual Outfits: 1,500 V-Bucks each (includes the base skin and back bling).
  • Signature Pickaxes: 800 V-Bucks (Jason’s blood-stained machete or Freddy’s clawed glove).
  • Character Bundles: 2,400 V-Bucks (includes skin, pickaxe, a unique glider, weapon wraps, and a themed loading screen).

Server Queues and Fan Frenzy

The community reaction was instant. Popular Fortnite leaker and commentator HYPEX posted on social media shortly after the shop updated. “Server queues are back,” they wrote. “The sheer volume of players trying to grab the Jason skin literally bent the matchmaking servers for about twenty minutes. This is easily the biggest Fortnitemares launch ever.”

But Fortnitemares 2026 is about more than just cosmetics. The island itself has undergone a spooky transformation. A heavy, supernatural mist now covers low-lying areas of the map, reducing visibility and making sneak attacks much easier. Epic has also unvaulted some fan-favorite spooky weapons, including the Pumpkin Launcher and the Witch Broom.

New POI: Camp Crystal Lake Replica

There is also a brand-new point of interest on the map. A foggy, wooded area called “Forest of the Lake” has appeared in the northeastern corner. It looks suspiciously like Camp Crystal Lake. Players who explore the wooden cabins can find hidden chests, but they must also watch out for hostile NPC slashers that roam the woods.

If you prefer cooperative play, the Horde Rush mode is back with significant upgrades. This year, the mode features a special boss fight at the end that pays homage to classic horror movie endings. Players must work together to defeat a giant, shadowy entity that uses illusions to disorient the squad.

Epic Games has a history of keeping secrets, and this update is no different. Dataminers have already found files hinting at a second wave of horror icons coming later in the month. Names like Leatherface and Michael Myers have been tossed around in community forums, though Epic has not officially confirmed these additions.

For now, the battle royale is a playground of terrors. The Fortnitemares event is scheduled to run until November 3, 2026. This gives players plenty of time to complete the free event challenges and earn exclusive spooky wraps and back blings without spending a dime. If you want to terrorize your opponents as a classic slasher, however, you might want to head to the Item Shop before the daily rotation changes.
