Fortnite Fortnitemares 2026 Adds Permanent Disney Villains Zone
Epic Games kicks off Fortnitemares 2026 with a permanent Disney Villains territory and cooperative boss raids on the Battle Royale map.
Fortnite’s annual spooky season is back, but this year’s update is a lot more than a passing phase. Epic Games has officially launched Fortnitemares 2026. The big news? A massive, permanent map expansion dedicated entirely to classic Disney Villains. Along with this creepy new territory comes a brand-new cooperative gameplay mechanic: multi-stage boss raids.
A Permanent Home for Disney’s Darkest Icons
For years, Fortnitemares has brought temporary jump scares, zombie hordes, and limited-time weapons to the Battle Royale island. Once November rolled around, those things vanished. Not this time. The new Disney Villains zone, dubbed “The Shattered Kingdom,” is here to stay. It sits on the northern edge of the map, shrouded in a perpetual purple fog.
This permanent integration is the first major gameplay fruit of Epic’s massive $1.5 billion partnership with Disney, announced earlier last year. Players landing in The Shattered Kingdom will find themselves exploring iconic, twisted environments. There is Maleficent’s crumbling castle, Ursula’s deep-sea grotto (somehow flooded right onto the dry land), and a gothic museum celebrating Captain Hook and Hades. In their official release, Epic Games stated that this map expansion represents a new era of storytelling on the island, merging legendary Disney lore with the chaotic freedom of Fortnite.
Cooperative Boss Raids: A New Way to Play
But the environment is only half the story. The update also introduces cooperative boss raids. Historically, fighting bosses in Fortnite meant third-party chaos. You would try to take down a boss, only for another player to snipe you from a bush and steal the loot. The new raid system changes that dynamic entirely.
In designated raid zones within the Shattered Kingdom, players can opt into cooperative public events. When a raid begins, the surrounding area becomes a temporary truce zone. PvP damage is turned off. Instead, up to twenty players must work together to bring down massive, multi-stage bosses like Chernabog or Maleficent in her dragon form.

These boss fights are brutal. They feature MMO-style mechanics. You will need to:
- Dodge sweeping area-of-effect attacks that can wipe out half the lobby.
- Destroy dark magic shield generators while managing waves of lesser minions.
- Revive fallen teammates, as there are no respawn vans inside the raid arena.
It requires real coordination, a rarity in a game where everyone is usually shooting at each other.
The Loot and the Aftermath
Once the boss falls, the truce ends. There is a tense, five-second countdown. After that, PvP is restored, and players must scramble to grab the legendary loot and escape before a massive free-for-all breaks out. The loot is worth the risk. Defeating these Disney bosses drops exclusive Mythic weapons, like Maleficent’s Staff or Captain Hook’s Cutlass, which offer unique movement options and high-damage attacks.
Along with the map changes, the in-game Item Shop has received a major overhaul. Players can finally unlock highly anticipated skins, including Captain Hook, Cruella de Vil, and Maleficent. Each skin comes with unique emotes and back blings that reference their classic animated films. Epic has also introduced a special “Villains Pass,” a mini-battle pass that runs alongside the main season pass, allowing players to earn spooky rewards by completing specific raid challenges.
The community’s reaction has been largely positive. Casual players love the cooperative PvE element. It gives them a break from the sweatier aspects of the battle royale mode. Competitive players are already theory-crafting how the new Mythic items will shake up the end-game meta. One thing is certain: Fortnite is no longer just a battle royale game. It is a vast digital theme park. The update is live now on all platforms, and players are already dropping into the mist to test their luck against Disney’s darkest icons.
