Fortnite Teases Massive Dune: Part Three Crossover Event
Epic Games is bringing Dune back to Fortnite with interactive Arrakis POIs, giant sandworms, and brand-new movie-inspired character skins.
The Sands of Arrakis Are Coming to the Island
Fortnite is heading back to the desert. In a surprise social media post, Epic Games dropped a cryptic teaser that has sent both gamers and sci-fi fans into a frenzy. The short clip heavily implies an upcoming crossover with the legendary franchise Dune, specifically timed around the early hype for Dune: Part Three. This is not just another skin drop. This time, the desert planet of Arrakis is taking over a massive portion of the Battle Royale island.
The brief, fifteen-second video posted to Epic’s official channels shows a familiar sight: a vast, shimmering desert landscape blanketed by a violent dust storm. In the background, the rhythmic, low-frequency thumping of a thumper echoes through the audio. Right before the screen cuts to black, the sand swells violently. A massive shadow moves beneath the surface, leaving little doubt that Shai-Hulud—the legendary giant sandworm—is coming to the game.
New Interactive Map Features and Sandworms
According to prominent Fortnite leakers and data miners, this collaboration will be far more ambitious than the previous Dune release in 2021. Instead of simply buying outfits from the Item Shop, players will actually step onto the hostile sands of Arrakis. A new Point of Interest (POI) is expected to replace one of the current map’s temperate zones, transforming it into a barren, spice-rich desert wasteland.

Sources suggest this new zone will feature unique gameplay mechanics. Walking normally on the sand will attract the attention of the sandworm, which can swallow players whole or launch them high into the air. To survive, players will need to master sandwalking or stick to rocky outcroppings. There are also rumors of a new Spice consumable. Gathering spice will grant temporary speed boosts and thermal vision, but it comes with a catch: it makes your character glow, turning you into an easy target for rivals.
Fresh Skins and Returning Favorites
Of course, the crossover will bring plenty of fresh cosmetics. While the highly popular Paul Atreides and Chani skins—modeled after Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya—are expected to return to the shop, brand-new characters are joining the roster. Insiders point to an older version of Alia Atreides, as well as a battle-worn Paul in his Fremen leadership gear. Fans are also holding out hope for a Feyd-Rautha skin, complete with his signature twin gladiatorial daggers as a dual-wield harvesting tool.
Epic Games has a long history of blending pop culture with interactive gameplay, but bringing a hazard as massive as a sandworm to the main Battle Royale map presents a fun technical challenge. If the rumors are true, the worm won’t just be a visual prop. It will actively destroy structures and force players to constantly rethink their positioning during late-game circles.
When Does the Spice Flow?
An official release date has not been locked down yet, but the teaser suggests the update is just around the corner. Most speculation points to the mid-season patch, which usually drops on a Tuesday. Whenever it arrives, players should start practicing their desert walk now. The spice must flow, even in the loop.
