Disney Villains Invade Fortnite for Fortnitemares 2026
Epic Games brings Disney’s most iconic villains directly into Fortnite’s Battle Royale island as hostile bosses for the Fortnitemares 2026 event.
A Spooky Takeover of the Island
Fortnite’s annual Halloween celebration, Fortnitemares, has always brought monsters and mayhem to the Battle Royale island. But this year, Epic is changing the rules. For Fortnitemares 2026, the developer is unleashing Disney’s most notorious villains onto the map. This marks the first time these classic antagonists will actively hunt players in the core game mode.
This is not just another character skin drop. It is a full-scale invasion. Iconic figures like Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil are taking up residence in newly transformed areas of the island. They are bringing their own wicked henchmen and powerful weapons with them.
The Villains Become Bosses
Instead of merely buying these characters in the Item Shop, players will have to fight them. Epic Games has confirmed that several Disney villains will serve as hostile in-game bosses. Defeating them will not be easy, but the rewards are massive.
Take Maleficent, for example. She has claimed the ruins on the northern edge of the map, turning them into a dark, thorny fortress. If you manage to survive her wave of dark magic and defeat her, she drops a new Mythic item: Maleficent’s Staff. This weapon allows players to summon walls of green fire and launch explosive curses at rival squads.
Over on the southern coast, Captain Hook has docked his pirate ship. He is a fast, aggressive melee boss who lunges at players with his cutlass. Defeating Hook rewards players with his hook-hand grappling device, which offers unmatched mobility across the island’s varied terrain. Cruella de Vil, meanwhile, patrols the roads in a heavily armored, weaponized hot rod. She acts as a roaming threat that players must dodge or destroy.
Deepening the Disney and Epic Partnership
This crossover is the clearest sign yet of where Epic Games is heading after Disney’s massive $1.5 billion investment in the company back in early 2024. While we have seen Marvel and Star Wars dominate entire Fortnite seasons before, classic animated Disney properties have largely remained on the sidelines—until now.

“We wanted to do something that felt genuinely scary but incredibly fun,” said Saxs Persson, Executive Vice President at Epic Games. “Disney’s villains are legendary. Bringing them to life as active threats in the Battle Royale ecosystem gives players a completely new way to experience these characters. It’s not just about looking like them. It’s about surviving them.”
The integration goes beyond bosses. The entire island has been given a gloomy, twilight makeover. Fog rolls through the forests, and the skybox has been replaced with a haunting purple moon. Even the standard loot pool has been infected with Disney-themed tricks and treats, including cursed apples that grant temporary invisibility but drain shields, and pumpkin launchers that fire exploding poison apples.
Skins, Spooky Cosmetics, and Challenges
Of course, players who want to join the dark side can purchase these villain skins in the Item Shop. Alongside Maleficent and Hook, rumors suggest Hades from Hercules and Jafar from Aladdin might make surprise appearances later in the event. Epic has also introduced a special “Villain’s Questline” that lets players earn free cosmetic rewards, including a poison apple back bling and a skull-themed glider, simply by completing spooky challenges around the island.
What This Means for the Future of Fortnite
For years, Fortnite has served as a digital playground for various pop-culture universes. However, this event signals a shift toward deeper, more narrative-driven gameplay integrations. By weaving Disney’s intellectual property directly into the mechanics of the Battle Royale mode, Epic is proving that its partnership with the media giant is about much more than just virtual theme parks and metaverse spaces.
It is about changing how players interact with their favorite stories. If you want to claim a Victory Royale this October, you will have to go through some of cinema’s greatest evils first.
Fortnitemares 2026 is scheduled to launch on October 13, 2026, and will run through the first week of November. Players can expect weekly challenges, exclusive cosmetic rewards, and plenty of jump scares along the way.
