Disney Villains and AI Horror Headline Fortnitemares 2026
Epic Games reveals Fortnitemares 2026, featuring a massive Disney Villains crossover and advanced AI-driven horror tools for custom UEFN maps.
Epic Games is gearing up for its biggest Halloween event yet. The developer just pulled back the curtain on Fortnitemares 2026, and it looks like a massive treat for both Disney fans and horror enthusiasts. Launching in mid-October, this year’s seasonal update brings a dark twist to the battle royale, blending legendary Disney Villains with highly advanced, AI-powered custom horror maps created by the community.
It is no secret that Epic and Disney have been getting closer. Earlier this year, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games to build a persistent universe. Now, players are seeing the fruits of that partnership in a very sinister way. For the first time, some of Disney’s most iconic antagonists are officially stepping onto the Fortnite island.
Disney’s Darkest Icons Join the Fray
Players can expect to run into, or play as, legendary figures like Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Davy Jones. These characters will not just be shop cosmetics. Rumors from early playtests suggest they will also haunt specific areas of the map as hostile bosses. Defeating them will yield powerful Mythic items. Imagine wielding Maleficent’s staff to call down green fire, or using Hook’s cutlass for high-mobility melee combat.
“We wanted to give players something truly memorable this year,” said Saxs Persson, Executive Vice President of Epic’s Fortnite Ecosystem. “Disney’s villains are some of the most recognizable figures in pop culture. Bringing them into the chaotic fun of Fortnitemares felt like a natural fit.”
But the crossover is only half the story. The real shift for creators lies in the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
AI-Powered Scares in UEFN
This year, Epic is introducing brand-new, AI-driven tools specifically designed for horror map creators. Previously, custom map makers had to rely on basic triggers and predictable zombie paths. The new tools change everything. Now, creators can program monsters that learn from player behavior. These AI creatures can hunt players by listening to their footsteps, tracking their flashlight beams, or even setting traps based on where players hide.
It means player-made horror maps are about to get much scarier. Epic plans to launch a dedicated “Spooky Row” in the Discover tab to highlight these AI-driven experiences. Some early creators who received beta access to the tools have already teased incredibly tense, atmospheric maps that feel more like standalone horror games than standard Fortnite matches.
Classic Spooky Gameplay Returns
Of course, the classic Battle Royale mode is also getting its annual spooky makeover. The sky will darken, thick fog will roll across the island, and the usual array of jumpscare-inducing obstacles will return. The beloved Wood Stake Shotgun and Pumpkin Launcher are rumored to be coming out of the vault, alongside a few new supernatural weapons.
The event is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. This gives players roughly three weeks to complete special spooky challenges, earn free cosmetic rewards, and explore the revamped island before the season transitions into November.
Whether you are a casual player looking to cause chaos as a classic Disney villain or a hardcore creative map fan seeking genuine scares, Fortnitemares 2026 is shaping up to be an unforgettable event. Stay tuned as Epic drops more teasers in the coming days.
