Epic Games unveils Fortnitemares 2026, featuring a Resident Evil survival-horror crossover and the official launch of the first-person matchmaking mode.

Epic Games is pulling out all the stops for Fortnitemares 2026. The developer just announced the official details for its annual Halloween event, and it is shaping up to be one of the biggest updates in the game’s history. This year, the crossover focus is going heavy on survival horror. Players will find themselves facing off against the horrors of Capcom’s legendary Resident Evil franchise. But the crossover is only half the story. Epic is also using this event to officially launch Fortnite’s highly anticipated, dedicated first-person matchmaking mode.

A Whole New Perspective

The rumors have circulated for years. Dataminers have leaked early builds, and players have used creative workarounds to glitch the camera. Now, the wait is over. Starting with the Fortnitemares update, players can queue into dedicated lobbies designed entirely around a first-person perspective.

This is not just a simple camera shift. It completely changes how the game feels. Epic has rebuilt the aiming mechanics from the ground up to support the new viewpoint. Gunplay is tighter, more tactical, and significantly more intense. When you are running through a dark forest or clearing out a building, your field of view is limited. You cannot look around corners without actually exposing yourself. For now, the first-person mode will be available in its own matchmaking queues for both classic Battle Royale and Zero Build.

Raccoon City Comes to the Island

To show off this new perspective, Epic is leaning heavily into the horror theme. The centerpiece of Fortnitemares 2026 is a massive crossover with Resident Evil. A significant portion of the Battle Royale map is being transformed into a foggy, zombie-infested nightmare. The highlight is the addition of the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD) as a brand-new point of interest.

The RPD is not just a superficial skin on an existing building. It is a multi-level, claustrophobic maze designed to mimic the layout of the classic horror games. Inside, players will find tight corridors, flickering lights, and hordes of classic Resident Evil zombies. Lickers will cling to the ceilings, waiting to ambush unsuspecting players who do not look up.

And then there is the Nemesis. Epic is introducing the iconic monster as a roaming boss on the island. Nemesis will actively hunt players down. If you hear his heavy footsteps or his signature growl, you have a choice to make: fight or run. He is armed with his rocket launcher and tentacle attacks. Defeating him requires a coordinated team effort, but the rewards are worth it. Players who manage to take him down will get their hands on powerful mythic weapons, including a specialized rocket launcher and high-tier healing items.

PvE Co-Op and Event Rewards

No Fortnite event is complete without cosmetic items. Players can look forward to new skins for Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine. These outfits will feature both modern remake designs and retro, low-polygon styles for fans of the original PlayStation classics. Additionally, a special Nemesis-themed glider and a combat knife harvesting tool will be available in the item shop.

Epic is also introducing a limited-time co-op mode called Escape Raccoon City. This PvE mode is built specifically for the new first-person camera. Up to four players must work together to find puzzle items, unlock doors, and survive waves of monsters inside the police station. Ammunition is scarce, making every shot count. It is a slower, more methodical experience than players are used to, evoking the dread of classic 1990s survival horror.

The Fortnitemares 2026 event is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. While the Resident Evil crossover and the special LTM will wrap up in early November, the first-person matchmaking mode is here to stay. Epic has confirmed it will remain a permanent fixture of Fortnite moving forward, opening up a whole new era for the popular shooter.
