The Wait is Finally Over

For years, Fortnite players have chased rumors about a Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover. Every October, the internet filled with fake leaks, concept art, and high hopes. That guessing game is officially over. Epic Games just dropped a teaser trailer that confirms Freddy Fazbear and his creepy robotic crew are headlining the Fortnitemares 2026 event.

The announcement sent shockwaves through the gaming community. It is a moment fans have begged for since the early days of Chapter 2. Now, the crossover is a reality. Epic Games released a brief but terrifying cinematic trailer showing the iconic animatronics stepping out of the shadows and onto the Fortnite island. The event is set to launch in mid-October, just in time for the Halloween season.

Meet the Animatronics Coming to the Item Shop

Players can expect a massive drop of cosmetics when the event begins. The initial wave features the four classic animatronics from the original 2014 horror game: Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. Each character has been recreated with incredible detail, capturing their weathered fur, exposed endoskeleton joints, and eerie, unblinking eyes.

But Epic did not stop at basic skins. Each outfit comes with unique styles and reactive features. Chica comes with her trusty cupcake companion, Carl, as a reactive Back Bling that look around during matches. Foxy’s pirate hook serves as a dual-wield Pickaxe option. Bonnie features an alternative ‘withered’ style, showing off his missing face and glowing red eyes from the second game.

The real highlight is the built-in emotes. Rumors from playtesters suggest that players can trigger jumpscares after securing an elimination. Imagine taking down an opponent and immediately flashing a screaming, glitching Freddy face on their screen. It is the kind of playful terror that fits both franchises perfectly.

A Haunted Pizza Parlor on the Island

The collaboration goes far beyond the Item Shop. The Fortnite map is getting a creepy makeover to accommodate the animatronic guests. A brand-new point of interest, a run-down, overgrown Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, will replace one of the island’s quieter northern landmarks.

This location will not just be for show. Players who dare to enter the pizzeria during a match will find themselves hunted by NPC versions of the animatronics. During the day cycle of the game, they stand still on stage as harmless props. But when night falls on the island, they activate, roaming the dark corridors of the restaurant. Defeating them will reward players with high-tier loot and a special mythical weapon: Freddy’s microphone, which can emit a disorienting sonic blast.

Security cameras will also be scattered around the building. Players can interact with monitor screens to spy on other teams lurking in adjacent rooms, a direct nod to the original survival-horror gameplay that made the franchise famous.

Why This Collaboration Took So Long

Getting this crossover off the ground was no easy feat. Fortnite has collaborated with almost every major pop culture franchise, from Marvel to Star Wars, but Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon has notoriously guarded his intellectual property. Cawthon has historically rejected fast-paced, action-heavy adaptations of his characters.

“Our players have asked for this collaboration more than almost any other in Fortnite history,” an Epic Games representative shared. “We worked closely with Scott Cawthon to make sure these characters felt authentic to their horror roots while still fitting into the chaotic, fun world of our battle royale. It is a delicate balance, but we think fans will be thrilled with the result.”

The community response has already been overwhelming. Within minutes of the trailer going live, hashtag trends dominated social media. Content creators are already planning custom game modes in Fortnite Creative, predicting a massive surge in player count when the update officially drops next month.

Release Date and Pricing

While Epic Games has not released the exact pricing for the individual bundles, history suggests they will fit standard crossover pricing. Individual skins will likely cost between 1,500 and 2,000 V-Bucks. A mega-bundle containing all four animatronics, their gear, and exclusive loading screens is expected to retail around 3,500 V-Bucks.

Fortnitemares 2026 is scheduled to go live following the v31.10 update, which is slated for Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Keep your flashlights ready and your eyes on the cameras. It is going to be a long night on the island.
