Fortnite Fans React With Anger Over Fortnitemares Price Hike
Epic Games faces intense community backlash after raising the price of the newly released Classic Monsters bundle for Fortnitemares 2026.
Fortnite’s annual Halloween celebration is usually a time for spooky fun, but this year, players are screaming for the wrong reasons. Epic Games is facing intense backlash following a sudden, unexpected price jump for the newly released “Classic Monsters” bundle during the Fortnitemares 2026 event.
The bundle features three highly anticipated Halloween-themed skins: the Vampire Lord, the Swamp Terror, and a revamped Patchwork Bride. For weeks, community dataminers suggested the package would cost 2,800 V-Bucks. It seemed like a fair deal. But when the Item Shop refreshed on Tuesday night, players logged in to find a much heftier price tag of 3,800 V-Bucks staring back at them.
A Steep Tax on Nostalgia
That 1,000 V-Buck difference is not pocket change. In real-world currency, it translates to roughly an extra $9 USD. Many fans feel Epic Games is exploiting holiday hype to squeeze more money out of its dedicated player base.
The anger spread quickly across social media platforms. On the r/FortNiteBR subreddit, a thread discussing the pricing reached the front page within hours, racking up thousands of downvotes and hundreds of angry comments. Many players pointed out that buying the skins individually would cost 1,500 V-Bucks each. While the bundle still technically offers a discount compared to purchasing everything separately, the margin is far slimmer than what Fortnite players have come to expect from past holiday events.
“I was ready to buy this the second it dropped,” wrote one Reddit user under the handle SwampSlayer99. “But nearly 4,000 V-Bucks for three skins and some back blings is just greedy. I’m sitting this one out.”

Epic’s Defense and the Growing Cost of Cosmetics
Epic Games has not stayed completely silent, though their response has done little to calm the waters. In a brief post on their official Fortnite Status account on X, the developer clarified that the 3,800 V-Buck price tag is correct and not a glitch. They pointed out that the bundle also includes fully realized LEGO styles for all three characters, three unique pickaxes, and an exclusive loading screen.
But to many gamers, the inclusion of LEGO styles feels like forced padding. Ever since the launch of LEGO Fortnite, Epic has bundled these alternative styles with main skins, a move that critics argue has artificially driven up overall prices. Many players do not even play the LEGO mode.
Part of a Larger Trend
This is not an isolated incident. Over the past year, Fortnite’s economy has undergone subtle but painful shifts. In late 2023, Epic Games increased the price of V-Bucks globally, blaming inflation and currency fluctuations. Since then, fans have noticed a steady rise in the cost of collaborative bundles, crossover cosmetics, and even virtual instruments for Fortnite Festival.
Some industry analysts suggest Epic is testing the limits of what players are willing to pay. With millions of active daily users, even a small percentage of players buying the more expensive bundles can translate to massive revenue. However, the long-term risk to player goodwill is real.
As Fortnitemares 2026 continues, it remains to be seen if the backlash will force Epic’s hand. In the past, the developer has occasionally gifted free V-Bucks or offered partial refunds when community anger boiled over. For now, though, the Classic Monsters bundle remains at its premium price, leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans who just wanted to celebrate the spooky season.
