Epic Games kicks off Fortnitemares 2026 with the long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover, bringing iconic animatronics to the Item Shop.

It finally happened. After years of rumors, fake leaks, and endless concept art from fans, Freddy Fazbear is officially in Fortnite.

The annual Fortnitemares event is always a massive deal. Every October, Epic Games turns its battle royale hit into a digital haunted house. But the 2026 edition is shaping up to be the biggest one yet. On Tuesday night, Epic officially rolled out its partnership with Scott Cawthon’s legendary horror franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Rumors about this crossover have circulated online for years. Every time a new Fortnite update leaked, data miners searched the files for any hint of the creepy animatronics. This year, the speculation turned into reality. The animatronics have escaped the pizzeria and are now running wild on the Battle Royale island.

Freddy, Foxy, and Springtrap Lead the Pack

The collaboration doesn’t just feature one token skin. Epic went all out for this drop. Players logging into the game after the latest patch were greeted by a redesigned Item Shop featuring three primary characters from the horror series: Freddy Fazbear, Foxy the Pirate, and the terrifying Springtrap.

Each skin comes with its own set of unique cosmetics. Freddy has an alternative “Withered” style, showing off torn fabric and exposed endoskeleton parts. Foxy features a hook-hand pickaxe option that replaces the standard harvesting tool. Meanwhile, Springtrap has quickly become the favorite among hardcore lore fans, complete with subtle, eerie idle animations that mimic his twitching movements from the original games.

The prices are in line with previous major collaborations. Individual skins are listed at 1,500 V-Bucks. For players who want everything, Epic is offering a “Fazbear Entertainment Bundle” for 2,800 V-Bucks. This includes all three outfits, three distinct Back Blings—including a reactive Carl the Cupcake that reacts to eliminations—and a special “Jumpscare” emote.

The attention to detail in these cosmetics is what really stands out to long-time fans. The “Fazbear Security Guard” uniform is also available as a customizable skin, allowing players to put their own custom spin on the classic night watchman outfit. The Back Blings are highly reactive too. If you wear the mini Freddy plushie, it tilts its head and giggles every time you open a chest or knock down an enemy player. It is these small touches that show how closely Epic worked with Scott Cawthon’s team to respect the source material.

A Perfect Match for the Spooky Season

The reaction from the gaming community was instant. Social media platforms like X and Reddit were flooded with clips of players hit-demolishing opponents while dressed as giant mechanical bears. Streamers went wild.

“We’ve been asking for this since Chapter 2,” streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins said during his launch-day broadcast. “Seeing Freddy Fazbear hit the Griddy after getting a victory royale is peak Fortnite. It’s ridiculous, it’s scary, and it’s perfect.”

The map itself has undergone a dramatic transformation. The central area of the island now features a decaying, foggy terrain known as the “Fazbear Fright” point of interest. Players who dare to venture inside will find loot-filled chests, but they must also dodge moving shadows and sudden ambient sound effects that pay homage to the classic horror games. Epic also introduced a new temporary item: the Security Flashlight. Unlike the standard flashlight, this tool can temporarily blind opponents and stun the hostile animatronic bots that roam the map after nightfall in-game.

Keeping the Momentum Alive

This collaboration represents a major win for both Epic Games and the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. While Fortnite has successfully integrated pop culture icons like Marvel heroes, anime characters, and music superstars, horror icons have always held a special place in the game’s Halloween celebrations. Past events featured Michael Myers and Jack Skellington, but the younger demographic of Fortnite has a unique connection to the FNAF universe.

As Fortnitemares 2026 gets underway, players can expect more challenges, free rewards, and perhaps a few more spooky surprises in the shop before November arrives. But for now, the community is busy mastering their jumpscares and hunting down victories as the world’s most terrifying animatronics.
