Fortnitemares 2026 Debuts Five Nights at Freddy’s Horror Mode
Fortnite’s annual Halloween event kicks off with a massive FNAF collaboration, bringing first-person survival horror mechanics to the game.
A Long-Awaited Nightmare Arrives
Fortnitemares is back for 2026, and Epic Games is not pulling any punches. This year’s annual Halloween event features the collaboration fans have spent years begging for: Five Nights at Freddy’s. But this isn’t just a simple collection of character outfits in the Item Shop. Epic has built a fully interactive horror experience that transforms the shooter into a tense, first-person survival game.
The crossover showcases what is possible when developers push the boundaries of Unreal Editor for Fortnite, commonly known as UEFN. Instead of dropping onto the standard battle royale island, players find themselves trapped inside a dark, claustrophobic pizza parlor. The goal is simple. You must survive from midnight until six in the morning while terrifying animatronic beasts hunt you from the shadows.
Surviving the Night in First-Person
How does the gameplay hold up? Epic’s developers built the entire experience to run in a strict first-person perspective, completely stripping away the usual third-person camera. You won’t be building wooden walls or firing rocket launchers here. Instead, you are sitting in a cramped security office, desperately monitoring a network of grainy security cameras.
Power management is your only real defense. Every action has a cost. Checking the monitors, turning on the hallway lights, and closing the heavy metal security doors all drain the building’s generator. If the power hits zero before the clock strikes six, you are left in pitch darkness. That is when Freddy Fazbear strikes.

The animatronics themselves exhibit incredibly creepy behavior. Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy roam the hallways, utilizing complex pathfinding scripts designed in UEFN. They move silently when the cameras are off, but a sudden metallic scraping sound or a distant laugh will let you know they are getting closer. The jump scares are intense, loud, and entirely faithful to Scott Cawthon’s original creation.
Skins, Cosmetics, and Spooky Rewards
Of course, it would not be a Fortnite event without plenty of loot. Players can head to the Item Shop to pick up highly detailed skins of the main cast. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are all available as playable outfits. Epic added some incredible details to these designs. As you take damage in battle royale matches, the animatronics show wear and tear, revealing the endoskeleton wiring underneath. Their eyes even glow in the dark, making them a terrifying sight during night cycles on the main island.
For players who prefer earning their rewards, the Fortnitemares questline offers plenty of free cosmetics. Completing specific nights in the FNAF survival mode unlocks the following items:
- The ‘Fazbear Security’ badge back bling.
- A custom weapon wrap mimicking Freddy’s brown fur and bow tie.
- An exclusive spray of Foxy peeking out from behind his curtain.
- A specialized lobby track featuring the haunting carousel music from the original horror game.
A Massive Step for UEFN
This collaboration is a major milestone for Epic Games. By hosting a complex first-person survival horror game directly inside Fortnite, the developers are showing the world what UEFN can really do. It proves that the platform is no longer just a battle royale playground. It is a powerful engine capable of hosting entirely different genres of games, from high-speed racing to survival horror.
Fortnitemares 2026 is live right now across all platforms. Players can jump into the Five Nights at Freddy’s mode by entering the official Epic Games island code in the game’s main menu. Just remember to watch your power levels, keep an eye on the vents, and try not to scream too loudly when the lights go out.
