Epic Games kicks off Fortnitemares 2026 with reactive Disney Villains skins, bringing Maleficent and Captain Hook to the battle royale island.

A Spooky Season Takeover

The spookiest time of the year has officially arrived in Fortnite. Epic Games has launched its highly anticipated Fortnitemares 2026 event, and this year’s theme is all about embracing your dark side. While players can expect the usual map changes, unvaulted weapons, and creepy atmospheric shifts, the real star of the show is the brand-new Disney Villains collection.

After months of rumors and leaks, Maleficent and Captain Hook have finally landed in the Fortnite Item Shop. They are not just standard skins, either. Epic has loaded these outfits with reactive features that change dynamically during gameplay.

Maleficent and Captain Hook Step Into the Loop

The Disney Villains set marks a major milestone for the ongoing collaboration between Epic Games and Disney. Leading the charge is Maleficent, the Mistress of All Evil. Her outfit is fully reactive. As you rack up eliminations or deal damage, bright green flames erupt from her collar, and her eyes glow with an eerie, magical light. She comes packaged with a Raven back bling—a nod to her loyal pet, Diablo—and a custom staff that doubles as a harvesting tool.

Then there is Captain Hook. The classic Peter Pan antagonist looks surprisingly menacing in Fortnite’s signature art style. Hook’s reactive element is tied to his infamous timepiece. When players secure an elimination, a ticking clock sound echoes briefly, and a miniature Crocodile tail splashes out of a portal near his feet. His harvesting tool is, naturally, his razor-sharp hook, and he comes with a Jolly Roger sail glider.

Players can purchase the skins individually in the Item Shop or grab them as part of a discounted Disney Villains bundle. Individual skins are priced at 1,500 V-Bucks, while the complete bundle, which includes exclusive loading screens and wraps, goes for 2,800 V-Bucks.

Spooky Gameplay and Unvaulted Weapons

Fortnitemares is about more than just cosmetics. The island has undergone a dramatic transformation. Thick fog now rolls across several major points of interest, and the loot pool has received a spooky makeover.

Epic has unvaulted several fan-favorite weapons to help players hunt down their opponents. The Wood Stake Shotgun is back, offering heavy damage against both players and the monsters roaming the map. The Pumpkin Launcher also makes its return, sending explosive jack-o’-lanterns screaming across the battlefield. Additionally, players can find Witch Brooms scattered around the island, allowing for quick escapes and high-ground rotations.

For those who prefer cooperative play, the Horde Rush Limited-Time Mode is back. Teams of four must work together to survive waves of Cube Monsters, collect score multipliers, and defeat a final boss. Completing Horde Rush challenges will reward players with free cosmetics, including a special Halloween-themed loading screen and weapon wrap.

The Growing Disney and Epic Partnership

This massive crossover is the latest result of Disney’s massive $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games, which was announced in early 2024. The entertainment giant made it clear that they wanted to build a persistent Disney universe within Fortnite. We have already seen Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar integrations, but bringing classic animated villains into a shooting game marks a fun, slightly darker turn for the partnership.

Industry analysts expect this trend to accelerate. Epic is reportedly working on dedicated Disney-themed survival and sandbox worlds that will live alongside LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing. For now, players seem thrilled just to run around the island as some of cinema’s most famous antagonists.

Fortnitemares 2026 is scheduled to run through November 3, giving players plenty of time to complete their challenges, explore the fog-covered island, and test out the new Disney Villains gear. Grab your V-Bucks, drop into the island, and let the chaos begin.
