Disney Villains Invade Fortnitemares 2026 in Huge Epic Update
Epic Games kicks off Fortnitemares 2026, debuting a massive Disney Villains crossover featuring Maleficent, Captain Hook, and new map locations.
The fog is rolling in early on the Fortnite island this year.
On Tuesday morning, Epic Games officially launched Fortnitemares 2026, and it’s a big one. This year, the developer is rolling out its first massive, interactive Disney Villains expansion. The crossover comes as a direct result of the highly publicized $1.5 billion partnership between Epic and the House of Mouse.
It is a massive shift for the battle royale. While players are used to seeing Marvel superheroes and Star Wars Jedi running around the map, this update marks the first time classic Disney animation villains are taking center stage in a major gameplay event.
The Island Goes Dark
The island has undergone a dark, magical transformation. A massive, thorny forest inspired by Sleeping Beauty has overtaken the northwestern quadrant of the map. In the center of these twisted woods sits a ruined castle where players can challenge Maleficent herself.
Defeating her won’t be easy. She wields a devastating green fire magic that can melt build structures in seconds. But the risk is worth it. She drops a Mythic-tier staff that lets players summon fiery walls of their own.
On the other side of the map, Captain Hook has docked his cursed galleon at the swampy docks. Hook isn’t just a static boss. He actively patrols the deck with a crew of ghostly pirates. Players who manage to take him down can claim his flintlock pistol, a weapon that boasts a massive knockback effect and high shield-shattering damage.

Later in the month, Epic plans to activate a third boss arena. This one features Hades, the fast-talking ruler of the underworld from Hercules, who will bring a fiery chasm to the southern desert region.
A Brand New Way to Play
Beyond the standard battle royale mode, Epic is introducing a brand-new cooperative experience called Escape the Underworld. In this PvE mode, squads of four players must work together to fight off waves of dark minions. They will solve light puzzles inside a shifting labyrinth and escape before a giant shadow version of Chernabog, the towering demon from Fantasia, consumes the map. It’s a faster, more action-focused mode that feels distinct from the usual battle royale matches.
This massive crossover is the first major proof of concept for the Epic-Disney partnership. When Disney acquired a $1.5 billion stake in Epic in early 2024, the companies promised a multi-year project that would create an entire persistent universe connected to Fortnite. Many industry observers wondered how these two massive, distinct cultures would blend. If Fortnitemares 2026 is any indication, the answer is a seamless, slightly edgy fusion of classic Disney storytelling and Epic’s chaotic multiplayer gameplay.
Reaching a New Generation
According to Joost van Dreunen, an industry analyst who tracks gaming platform trends, this update shows how Disney plans to use Epic’s platform to reach younger audiences.
“Disney is realizing that they don’t need to build their own games from scratch anymore,” van Dreunen noted. “Instead, they can inject their iconic characters directly into a game that already has millions of active daily players. It’s cheaper, faster, and far more effective at capturing the attention of younger generations.”
For players who want to look like their favorite bad guys, the in-game Item Shop is packed with new cosmetics. Epic is offering individual skins for Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil, alongside a bundle that includes unique pickaxes, back bling, and emotes. Cruella’s skin even features a reactive coat that changes color as players get more eliminations during a match.
The Fortnitemares 2026 event is live now and will run through November 3. With weekly challenges offering free spooky-themed rewards, players have plenty of reasons to drop back into the island. Whether you are a casual fan of classic animation or a competitive player looking for the next powerful Mythic weapon, this update has something for everyone.
