Fortnitemares 2026 Launches with Huge Blumhouse Horror Crossover
Fortnite kicks off its scariest event yet, teaming up with horror giant Blumhouse for terrifying new UEFN maps and spooky skins.
Fortnite is getting a massive dose of genuine terror this spooky season. Epic Games has launched Fortnitemares 2026, and it might just be the most ambitious version of the Halloween event to date. This year, the developer is partnering with Blumhouse, the powerhouse studio behind some of modern cinema’s biggest horror hits.
A Partnership Built on Fear
The collaboration brings iconic horror characters directly into the battle royale. But the real star of the show isn’t just the item shop skins. It is a series of incredibly detailed, highly atmospheric horror games built entirely inside Fortnite using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
For years, Fortnitemares was mostly about pumpkin launchers, foggy maps, and a few spooky skins. Now, Epic is pushing the boundaries of what a live-service game can do. By teaming up with Blumhouse, they are bridging the gap between casual battle royale matches and genuine survival horror. The results are surprisingly tense.
“We wanted to do something that actually makes players jump,” says Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse. “Fortnite has this massive, diverse audience, and bringing our flavor of suspense to UEFN allowed us to build experiences that feel like playable Blumhouse films.”
Interactive Horror in UEFN
At the center of the event is a special playlist featuring three custom-built UEFN maps. Each is designed by talented indie developers in close collaboration with Blumhouse’s newly minted gaming division. They do not feel like typical Fortnite creative maps.
The first map, titled The Whispering Halls, is a slow-burn psychological thriller. Players navigate an abandoned, shifting boarding school with nothing but a flickering flashlight. The audio design here is incredibly tense. Every creak of the floorboards or distant whisper feels uncomfortably close. It is a massive departure from the bright, chaotic gameplay Fortnite is known for. No weapons. No building. Just survival.

The second map is a frantic, co-op survival experience based on the hit movie M3GAN. Up to four players must outrun and outsmart rogue AI androids inside a high-tech toy factory. It is fast-paced and stressful. It even features plenty of the terrifying, uncanny dancing that made the film a viral sensation. If she catches you, it is game over.
Finally, there is a specialized map inspired by The Black Phone. Here, players must solve escape-room-style puzzles while avoiding a masked captor who stalks them through a labyrinthine basement. The atmosphere is heavy, and the jumpscares are frequent.
Spooky Loot and Legendary Skins
Naturally, the crossover comes with plenty of new gear for the item shop. Players can purchase cosmetics based on M3GAN, including her signature trench coat and a traversal emote that recreates her famous dance. There is also a highly detailed skin for the Grabber from The Black Phone, complete with his eerie, interchangeable brass masks. Fans of classic Blumhouse films will find plenty of Easter eggs hidden throughout the island.
Even the standard Battle Royale mode is getting a spooky makeover. The island is currently covered in a thick, creeping fog that drastically reduces visibility. A new weapon, the Soul Siphon Scythe, allows players to harvest health from defeated opponents. Classic items like the Witch Broom and the wood-stake shotgun have also returned to the active loot pool to help players deal with the sudden increase in map-wide threats.
Pushing the Limits of Fortnite
Epic Games has been vocal about its desire to turn Fortnite into a massive, multi-experience platform rather than just a shooter. Fortnitemares 2026 is a massive step toward that goal. By hosting high-quality, third-party horror games directly within its ecosystem, Epic is proving that UEFN is capable of delivering experiences that rival standalone indie games. It is no longer just a tool for building basic deathmatches.
The event is live now and will run through November 3, 2026. Whether you are looking to grind out some spooky quests for free cosmetics or test your nerves in a pitch-black hallway, there is plenty of content to keep you busy this October. Just make sure to keep your volume up—and maybe leave the lights on.
