Fortnite servers are going offline for Fortnitemares 2026. Find out exactly when matchmaking drops and when the spooky update goes live.

The Spooky Season Begins with Scheduled Downtime

The island is about to get a lot creepier. Epic Games is preparing to roll out Fortnitemares 2026, the developer’s massive annual Halloween celebration. But before you can hunt monsters, explore haunted points of interest, or purchase the latest spooky skins, you will have to deal with some scheduled server downtime. Epic has to take the game offline to install the massive new update.

If you are planning a late-night gaming session, you need to watch the clock closely. Matchmaking will be disabled temporarily before the entire game goes dark. Here is everything you need to know about the maintenance schedule, expected downtime duration, and what to expect when the game comes back online.

When Do Fortnite Servers Go Offline?

Epic Games has confirmed the exact timing for the upcoming server maintenance. For players in North America and Europe, the disruption will hit during the early morning hours. Matchmaking will be disabled starting at 3:30 AM ET. If you are in the middle of a match at that time, you will be booted back to the lobby.

Exactly thirty minutes later, at 4:00 AM ET, the servers will go completely offline. At this point, you won’t be able to log into the game at all. Here is how those times translate across different time zones:

  • Pacific Time (PT): Matchmaking ends at 12:30 AM, servers offline at 1:00 AM
  • Eastern Time (ET): Matchmaking ends at 3:30 AM, servers offline at 4:00 AM
  • British Summer Time (BST): Matchmaking ends at 8:30 AM, servers offline at 9:00 AM
  • Central European Summer Time (CEST): Matchmaking ends at 9:30 AM, servers offline at 10:00 AM

Don’t panic if you get an error message during these windows. This is standard procedure for major seasonal updates.

How Long Will the Downtime Last?

Usually, standard Fortnite updates take about two to three hours. However, seasonal events like Fortnitemares are a different beast. These updates bring massive map re-designs, brand-new gameplay mechanics, and dozens of heavy cosmetic files to the game directory.

Because of the sheer size of the update, expect the game to be offline for at least four hours. If everything goes smoothly and the developers do not run into any unexpected backend issues, the servers should start coming back online around 8:00 AM ET. Keep in mind that login queues are very common right after a major update, as millions of players try to jump back in at the exact same time.

What to Expect from Fortnitemares 2026

Once you install the patch and get past the login screen, you will find a radically transformed island. Thick fog will likely blanket several regions of the map, altering visibility and changing how you approach long-range gunfights. Landmark locations are getting spooky makeovers with cobwebs, eerie lighting, and hidden jump scares.

Classic Halloween weapons are also making a return. The fan-favorite Pumpkin Launcher is back to cause explosive chaos. Witch Brooms will once again be available, giving players a quick and mobile way to escape tight situations. You can also expect the return of Candy consumables, which provide temporary buffs like speed boosts or low gravity.

Prepare for a Large Update File

Before the servers go live, make sure your console or PC has plenty of free storage space. Major seasonal updates require significant download sizes. It is a good idea to enable auto-updates on your device so the patch can download while the servers are still undergoing maintenance. That way, you will be ready to drop right back into the action the moment Epic turns the servers back on.
