Fortnite Launches Fortnitemares 2026 with Surprise Leatherface Skin

Epic Games just dropped the curtain on Fortnitemares 2026, and they did not ease players into the spooky spirit. Instead, they went straight for the throat. The annual Halloween event kicked off with a massive surprise in the Item Shop: Leatherface, the legendary antagonist of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, has officially joined the battle royale.

Rumors had been swirling for weeks about which horror icon would headline this year’s festivities. While names like Art the Clown and Freddy Krueger popped up in community forums, Epic chose the buzz of Bubba Sawyer’s chainsaw to lead the charge. The crossover is a major pull for slasher fans, bringing one of cinema’s most terrifying villains into Fortnite’s colorful world.

The Leatherface Set: Prices and Cosmetics

The Leatherface cosmetic set is as detailed as it is grim. The main attraction is the “Leatherface” Outfit, which features his classic mud-splattered apron and stitched-skin mask. Epic also included an edit style based on his infamous “Pretty Woman” look from the climax of the 1974 film. It is a brilliant nod to horror history that fans immediately noticed.

Here is a breakdown of what is available in the shop and how much V-Bucks you will need to spend:

• Leatherface Outfit (includes ‘Pretty Woman’ style & Rust-Caked Fuel Tank Back Bling): 1,500 V-Bucks
• The Chainsaw Harvesting Tool: 800 V-Bucks
• Chainsaw Dance Emote: 500 V-Bucks
• The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Bundle: 2,200 V-Bucks

The Chainsaw Harvesting Tool is the standout item here. When swung, it emits the authentic, guttural revving sound that haunted moviegoers decades ago. The emote is equally atmospheric, allowing players to recreate the iconic sunset dance from the end of the original movie. If you buy the bundle, you save a decent chunk of V-Bucks, making it the obvious choice for collectors.

Ultra-Rare Halloween Skins Creep Out of the Vault

But Epic Games did not stop with a single high-profile collaboration. The developer also unlocked the vault, bringing back some of the rarest Halloween cosmetics in Fortnite history. Some of these items have not seen the light of day in over nine hundred days, sending the secondary market and collector communities into a frenzy.

Among the returning classics is the legendary “Deadfire” outfit, a reactive skin that changes appearance as you eliminate opponents or survive longer in a match. Alongside him is “Hollowhead,” the pumpkin-headed specter that first debuted during the early days of Fortnite. Fans who missed out on these cosmetics during previous autumn events scrambled to grab them, causing brief server hiccups as the Item Shop refreshed.

“I’ve been waiting three years for the Skull Sickle pickaxe to return,” wrote one player on Reddit. “I logged in the second the shop updated. My locker is finally complete.”

What This Means for Fortnitemares 2026

The surprise arrival of Leatherface sets a dark, thrilling tone for the rest of Fortnitemares 2026. Historically, Epic Games uses the first week of the event to build hype before rolling out gameplay updates. Players are already speculating about what is next. Will we see a playable chainsaw mythic weapon on the island? Rumors suggest a special boss NPC might haunt the rebooted Frenzy Fields, wielding a weapon that can tear through player builds in seconds.

We also expect the return of the fan-favorite Horde Rush mode later this week. In this cooperative LTM, players team up to fight off waves of Cube Monsters. This year, rumors suggest the monsters might get a visual overhaul to match the grittier, slasher-movie aesthetic of the Leatherface crossover.

Whether you are a casual player looking for a good scare or a hardcore collector hunting down rare digital goods, Fortnitemares 2026 is already shaping up to be one of the most memorable events in years. Just make sure to keep your ears open while roaming the island—that faint buzzing sound in the distance might not be a vehicle.
