Fortnite Debuts Permanent Halloween Town in Fortnitemares 2026
Epic Games and Disney are using UEFN to build a permanent, playable Halloween Town from The Nightmare Before Christmas for Fortnitemares 2026.
Epic Games is stepping up its game for Halloween. For the Fortnitemares 2026 event, the developer is leaning hard into its massive, ongoing partnership with Disney. Instead of simply selling character outfits in the virtual item shop, the two giants are launching something much more ambitious. They have built a fully playable, persistent recreation of Halloween Town from Tim Burton’s classic film, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Built entirely inside Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), this new virtual space is designed to outlast the spooky season.
A Big Step for the Epic-Disney Partnership
This is not just another temporary crossover map. It represents the first massive, concrete step toward the interconnected digital universe that Disney and Epic Games promised last year. That announcement came after the media giant purchased a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games. Now, players are getting their first real taste of what this multi-year project actually looks like in practice.
Halloween Town is not a simple backdrop. Epic says UEFN allowed creators to build a highly detailed, atmospheric world that matches the unique aesthetic of the 1993 stop-motion film. Players can walk through the eerie, crooked streets, visit the iconic Spiral Hill under the giant yellow moon, and explore Jack Skellington's towering house. The level of detail is unprecedented for a Fortnite creative island. Custom lighting tools and advanced physics within UEFN give the environment a hand-crafted look. It even mimics the slightly jerky movement style reminiscent of traditional stop-motion animation.
Inside the Gameplay of Halloween Town
In terms of actual gameplay, the new zone offers a variety of activities. Epic integrated a series of narrative-driven quests where players help Jack Skellington save his beloved holiday from a rogue Oogie Boogie. The villain serves as a repeatable world boss in the center of the map. Defeating Oogie Boogie requires coordinated team efforts. Players must use unique weapons designed specifically for this zone, such as explosive jack-o'-lanterns and spectral grappling hooks.

For more casual players, the town features trick-or-treating mini-games and hidden secrets. Many of these are tucked away inside Dr. Finkelstein's laboratory. To truly capture the film’s eerie charm, developers integrated Danny Elfman’s iconic musical soundtrack directly into the world’s dynamic audio system. The music swells and changes depending on which part of the town you explore.
Why a Persistent World Changes the Game
The persistent nature of the island is the real news here. In previous years, Fortnitemares content vanished the moment November arrived. This time, Halloween Town is here to stay. It will act as a permanent, dedicated portal within the Fortnite ecosystem, paving the way for future Disney integrations. Rumors suggest Disney is already working on similar persistent hubs for other major properties, including Star Wars and Marvel, using the exact same UEFN pipeline.
“We wanted to see how far we could push the visual limits of UEFN,” says Saxs Persson, Epic Games’ Executive Vice President. “This isn't just a level you run through once and forget. It is an interactive experience, a social space, and a game hub all in one. Because we built it on our modern toolset, it will remain online permanently for players to visit whenever they want, even in the middle of summer.”
A Preview of the Metaverse Future
Industry analysts see this project as a crucial proof of concept. Building high-quality, branded worlds inside Fortnite allows Disney to reach a massive, younger audience. They can do this without the massive financial risk of building a standalone video game from scratch. For Epic, it proves that UEFN is powerful enough to handle major Hollywood intellectual property at a AAA level of quality.
The Fortnitemares 2026 event officially kicks off on October 12, but the Halloween Town portal will remain open long after the jack-o'-lanterns fade. Players can jump in via the Discover tab using a dedicated island code, or find it directly through the main lobby menu. Whether you are there to fight bosses with friends or just hang out under the shadow of Spiral Hill, this release signals a major shift in how entertainment brands exist inside virtual spaces.
