Epic Games Partners With Blumhouse for Fortnitemares 2026 Horror
Epic Games is partnering with Blumhouse Games to build a series of terrifying, licensed horror survival experiences inside Fortnite for Fortnitemares 2026.
Epic Games is preparing to turn its brightly colored battle royale into a genuine house of horrors. The company has officially announced a multi-year partnership with Blumhouse, the powerhouse studio behind modern horror hits like M3GAN, The Purge, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. The collaboration will culminate in a massive overhaul for Fortnitemares 2026, introducing a suite of licensed horror survival games built entirely within Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
This marks a major shift in how Epic handles brand partnerships. In the past, massive entertainment franchises would crossover into Fortnite primarily through character skins and brief, limited-time gameplay events. Players could buy a Xenomorph outfit or dodge a laser beam from a passing UFO. This new deal changes the formula entirely. Instead of mere cosmetics, Blumhouse Games—the publisher’s newly minted interactive division—will design dedicated, standalone-quality horror games that live directly inside the Fortnite client.
“We want to push the boundaries of what players expect from Fortnitemares,” said Saxs Persson, Executive Vice President of the Fortnite Ecosystem at Epic Games. “UEFN gives creators and studios the tools to build incredibly sophisticated, terrifying experiences. Partnering with Blumhouse allows us to bring authentic, narrative-driven horror to millions of players who are looking for something much deeper than a simple battle royale match.”
A New Era of Survival Horror in Fortnite
The core of the 2026 initiative relies on the raw power of UEFN. Over the last couple of years, Epic has steadily upgraded the engine’s capabilities, adding advanced physics, complex AI scripting, and custom first-person camera perspectives. These tools allow developers to strip away the traditional Fortnite mechanics—like building walls and firing assault rifles—and replace them with tense stealth, flashlight-lit exploration, and psychological puzzles.
While specific details about the featured franchises remain under wraps, insiders suggest the lineup will pull from both classic and contemporary Blumhouse properties. Rumors point to a claustrophobic survival game based on the terrifying corridors of Insidious, alongside a highly replayable stealth-evasion game themed around The Purge. There is also speculation that a custom, narrative-driven M3GAN experience will put players in a deadly game of hide-and-seek against the rogue AI doll.

For Blumhouse, the partnership is a natural extension of its gaming strategy. The studio launched Blumhouse Games in 2023 with the goal of championing indie-style horror projects. Bringing those creative sensibilities to Fortnite offers access to a massive, highly engaged audience that is already accustomed to hanging out in virtual spaces.
Shifting the Platform’s Demographics
This move highlights Epic’s broader ambition to transition Fortnite from a shooting game into a comprehensive digital theme park. By introducing mature, genuinely frightening horror experiences, Epic is actively targeting older teens and young adults who may have drifted away from the standard battle royale mode.
The strategy seems to be working. Horror has consistently been one of the most popular genres in Fortnite’s Creative mode. Independent map makers have built highly successful, amateur horror games that regularly attract hundreds of thousands of concurrent players. By bringing in a titan like Blumhouse, Epic is effectively legitimizing this corner of the ecosystem with high-budget, professional production values.
“Gamers are looking for fresh ways to experience horror,” Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productions, noted in a joint press release. “We have always believed that great horror is about atmosphere and tension. Working with Epic allows us to build interactive nightmares that feel just as cinematic as our films, but with the terrifying agency of a video game.”
What This Means for Creators
The partnership is also expected to benefit the broader Fortnite creative community. Epic plans to release a selection of custom Blumhouse-themed assets and templates to all UEFN creators following the event. This means independent developers will soon have access to professional-grade horror assets, lighting presets, and sound design tools to build their own spooky maps.
As the road to Fortnitemares 2026 begins, expectations are high. If successful, this collaboration could set a new precedent for how Hollywood studios interact with gaming platforms, moving away from simple advertising and toward deep, interactive storytelling.
