Maleficent and Cruella de Vil make their debut in Fortnitemares 2026 with incredible reactive transformation emotes.

The Queens of Evil Take Over the Island

October is here, and Epic Games is not pulling any punches for this year’s spooky season. The publisher has officially kicked off Fortnitemares 2026. While the annual Halloween event always brings plenty of jump scares and creepy decorations, this year features a massive pop-culture crossover. Disney’s most iconic villains have officially landed on the battle royale island.

Leading the wicked charge are Maleficent and Cruella de Vil. Rumors about their arrival had circulated in the community for months, but the actual release has surpassed players’ expectations. Epic Games has designed these skins to be much more than simple character swaps. They are highly interactive, sporting unique details that pay homage to their classic animated films.

Transforming Emotes Steal the Show

The standout feature of this new cosmetic line is the introduction of reactive transformation emotes. Epic Games has played with reactive skins before, but these new Disney additions take the mechanic to a whole new level. They allow players to shift their appearance mid-match after securing an elimination or by simply triggering an emote in the lobby.

Maleficent’s transformation is a spectacle of dark magic. When activated, she becomes shrouded in swirling green hellfire, and massive, photorealistic dragon wings emerge from her back. Her eyes glow with a piercing yellow light, making her a terrifying sight on the battlefield. Cruella de Vil features an equally impressive transition. Triggering her emote brings a storm of black-and-white paint splatters and high-fashion chaos, draping her in an extravagant fur coat while she unleashes her signature maniacal laugh.

Players can also unlock unique accessories. Maleficent comes with her iconic spinning wheel as a back bling and her staff as a harvesting tool. Cruella’s bundle features a glider designed after her notorious, roaring luxury car from the animated movie, complete with custom engine sounds and a trail of thick exhaust smoke.

A Growing Partnership in the Virtual Space

This crossover represents another major step in the deepening relationship between Epic Games and Disney. Following Disney’s massive 1.5 billion dollar investment in Epic earlier this year, fans knew that major collaborations were on the horizon. While we have seen Marvel and Star Wars characters dominate the game for years, this marks the first time that Disney’s core animated villains have received this level of attention in the battle royale.

According to sources close to the development team, this is just the beginning. Epic Games is reportedly working on a dedicated Disney-themed universe inside the Fortnite launcher. Introducing these villains during Fortnitemares serves as a perfect trial run to see how players interact with highly detailed, legacy animated characters in a competitive shooter environment.

Fortnitemares 2026 Gameplay Updates

The update is not just about cool cosmetics. Epic Games has shaken up the gameplay loop to match the spooky atmosphere. The center of the island has been transformed. A towering, gothic castle reminiscent of Maleficent’s fortress now dominates the landscape, complete with thorny vines that damage players who get too close.

Several classic Halloween weapons have also made a return. The Pumpkin Launcher is back in action, alongside the Wood Stake Shotgun, which has received a slight buff to its reload speed. The popular Horde Rush mode has also returned. In this mode, teams of four must work together to survive waves of cube monsters, earning exclusive free rewards like wrap skins and loading screens by completing event-specific challenges.

The Disney Villains bundles are currently available in the Fortnite Item Shop. Individual skins are priced at 1,500 V-Bucks, while the complete villain package, which includes all emotes, back blings, and harvesting tools, can be purchased for 2,800 V-Bucks. Fortnitemares 2026 is scheduled to run through the first week of November, giving players plenty of time to cause some elegant chaos on the island.
