A lone, AI-controlled stalker wearing the Ghostface mask hunts your squad from the shadows. He does not charge at you like normal zombies. Instead, he watches from behind trees, strikes when you are separated, and vanishes into the fog when fired upon.

‘We wanted to shift the focus from chaotic shooting to genuine suspense,’ says Marcus Vance, a lead gameplay designer at Epic Games. ‘Having a single, intelligent stalker hunting players in the dark completely changes how a squad behaves. You cannot just run and gun. You have to watch each other’s backs.’

Of course, it would not be a proper Halloween event without some classic chaotic items. The fan-favorite Pumpkin Launcher is back in the active loot pool, ready to fire explosive jack-o’-lanterns at unsuspecting targets. Players can also find Witch Brooms stashed in barrels across the map, offering a quick getaway when things get too intense.

The map itself has undergone a dramatic transformation. Key locations are now adorned with carved pumpkins, flickering candles, and eerie cobwebs. For those who prefer to earn their gear through gameplay, the event features a long list of Fortnitemares quests. Completing these challenges unlocks a variety of free rewards, including a creepy weapon wrap, a loading screen drawn by a popular community artist, and a stylized bat glider.

These challenges will roll out gradually over the next two weeks. They range from simple tasks, like eating candy corn scattered around the map, to more difficult feats, like defeating the stalker boss in the Midnight Woods mode. Most players should have no trouble unlocking the entire set before the event wraps up in early November.
