Fortnite Chapter 7 to Launch Massive Disney Expansion
Epic Games is building a persistent Disney world for Fortnite Chapter 7, featuring deep, permanent Star Wars and Marvel gameplay hubs.
Fortnite is about to undergo its biggest evolution yet. Forget simple crossover skins or brief seasonal events. Epic Games is currently building a massive, persistent “Disney Universe” directly inside the game’s launcher. Slated to arrive alongside Chapter 7, this sprawling digital ecosystem marks the first major fruit of Disney’s massive $1.5 billion investment in Epic. It is an ambitious bet on the future of virtual spaces.
A Permanent Home for Iconic Franchises
At the heart of this expansion are two massive, dedicated zones: a gritty, galaxy-spanning Star Wars sector and a bustling Marvel superhero sandbox. These are not temporary modes. They are permanent, evolving worlds with their own distinct progression systems, economies, and gameplay loops. Players will be able to jump between these hubs seamlessly, carrying their progress and digital items with them.
Epic is building a bridge between entirely different genres. Instead of dropping into a standard battle royale match, players can load into these persistent hubs to embark on long-term campaigns, build bases, and interact with classic characters in ways that go far beyond standard shooting mechanics.
Star Wars Hub: Kyber Crystals and Starfighter Dogfights
In the Star Wars hub, the focus shifts from traditional survival to open-ended space exploration. Players can jump into the cockpits of custom-built starfighters to engage in dogfights above iconic planets. Ground gameplay is getting a serious upgrade, too. Rumors from early development builds point to a deep lightsaber crafting system.
You won’t just find a generic Jedi weapon on the floor anymore. Instead, players will hunt down rare kyber crystals across different biomes to forge their own custom blades. Each crystal color and hilt type will offer unique fighting styles, force abilities, and stat modifiers. There are also plans for persistent player housing, allowing fans to build their own outposts on planets like Tatooine or Coruscant.

Marvel Hub: Sandbox Cities and Custom Superpowers
Meanwhile, the Marvel hub takes players to a massive, destructible metropolitan sandbox. Here, the mechanics lean heavily into power customization. Rather than relying on static character classes, players can mix and match heroic abilities. You might combine Iron Man’s flight thrusters with Captain America’s shield mechanics to create a completely custom playstyle.
The hub will also feature persistent cooperative raids. Teams of players will have to work together to defend the city from cosmic threats, with damage to the environment carrying over between play sessions. If a skyscraper gets damaged during a fight with Galactus, it will remain damaged until the community pools resources to rebuild it.
The Role of Creator Tools
Epic is also planning to allow creators to build within this Disney ecosystem. Using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), selected developers can design their own mini-games, narrative missions, and social spaces inside the Star Wars and Marvel zones. This means the content library will grow organically, far faster than Epic could manage on its own.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has long championed the concept of an open metaverse. This project represents the realization of that goal. It bridges the gap between passive viewing and active play. Everything you own in Fortnite—from your favorite skins to your emotes—will carry over into this new space.
The rollout is still a way off, but the implications are clear. Fortnite is no longer just a shooter. It is becoming a multi-franchise platform where players can live out their sci-fi and superhero fantasies on a permanent basis. For millions of fans, the wait for Chapter 7 just got a lot harder.
