Fortnite Fans Angry Over Overpriced Fortnitemares Bundle

Fortnite players are voicing their anger over the steep 3,400 V-Bucks price tag for the new Fortnitemares reactive Vampire Hunter bundle.

Fortnitemares is usually the most anticipated event of the Fortnite calendar. But this year, the spooky season is bringing more frights to players’ wallets than to their matches. The source of the outrage is the brand-new ‘Vampire Hunter’ reactive bundle, which just hit the Item Shop. Instead of celebrating the new cosmetics, the community is pushing back hard against what they call predatory pricing.

At the center of the storm is the bundle’s price tag: a whopping 3,400 V-Bucks.

For that price, players get the ‘Valeria the Vampire Slayer’ outfit, which is reactive and changes appearance as you get eliminations. The set also includes the ‘Crimson Stake’ harvesting tool, the ‘Gargoyle’s Flight’ glider, a weapon wrap, and a unique emote. Epic Games advertises the bundle as a major discount, claiming the items would cost over 5,000 V-Bucks if bought separately. But players are not convinced.

Community Reacts to ‘Microtransaction Inflation’

On platforms like Reddit and X, fans quickly did the math. To get 3,400 V-Bucks, players must purchase the 2,800 V-Bucks pack and an additional 1,000 V-Bucks pack, costing nearly $30 in real-world currency. For many, that crosses a line.

“Thirty dollars for one skin set is wild,” wrote one user on the r/FortNiteBR subreddit. “You can buy entire, award-winning indie games for that price.”

The anger is fueled by a sense of creeping inflation in the Fortnite Item Shop. Historically, even the most detailed legendary bundles rarely exceeded 2,500 V-Bucks. Reactive skins like Deadfire, which also changed form during matches, were sold for much less in previous years. Fans feel that Epic Games is testing the limits of what players are willing to pay, especially during a major holiday event when demand is high.

High Quality Overshadowed by High Prices

The reactive features of the ‘Vampire Hunter’ skin are undoubtedly impressive. Valeria starts the match in standard leather hunting gear, but as she gets kills, her armor begins to glow with a dark red energy, and ethereal bat wings sprout from her back. It is exactly the kind of high-effort cosmetic that Fortnite fans usually love. Now, that creativity is being overshadowed by its cost.

Even prominent Fortnite content creators, who usually promote new skins to their audiences, are voicing their concerns. Several popular streamers noted during their live broadcasts that they could not in good conscience recommend their viewers buy the bundle at its current price point. Some have called for a boycott of the item shop until Epic Games addresses the pricing structure.

Will Epic Games Back Down?

Epic Games has tweaked its pricing models globally over the past two years, pointing to rising economic inflation. However, players point out that Epic already raised the real-world price of V-Bucks packets. Raising the virtual cost of the items on top of that feels like double-dipping to the player base.

This is not the first time Epic has faced backlash over pricing. Last year, the company faced heavy criticism over the pricing of vehicle cosmetics for Rocket Racing, which forced them to quickly slash prices and offer V-Bucks refunds to early buyers.

Whether Epic will bend to player pressure this time is still unclear. The developer has not issued a statement regarding the Fortnitemares controversy. For now, the ‘Vampire Hunter’ bundle remains in the shop, serving as a reminder of the growing tension between free-to-play developers and their communities.
