Disney Villains Take Over Fortnite in Fortnitemares 2026
Epic Games officially reveals its Fortnitemares 2026 lineup, bringing Disney Villains Maleficent, Hades, and Captain Hook to the battle royale.
Epic Games is turning its Battle Royale island over to some of the most infamous bad guys in cinema history. The developer has officially unveiled the lineup for Fortnitemares 2026, and the main event is a massive, dark collaboration with Disney Villains. Fans have been guessing which creepy characters would drop into the game this October, and the official reveal does not disappoint.
This year, the spotlight shines brightly on Maleficent and Hades. They are not coming alone, either. Captain Hook is joining the fray, making this one of the most high-profile crossovers the game has seen during its annual Halloween event. Fortnitemares has always been a fan-favorite period, but bringing classic animation royalty into the mix raises the stakes significantly.
A Royal Invasion of Dark Magic
Maleficent, the Mistress of All Evil, is arguably the biggest draw of the bunch. Her in-game skin captures her iconic look from the 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty. She comes with her towering black horns, flowing purple-and-black robes, and an elegant staff that doubles as her harvesting tool. Players can also unlock a glider designed after her terrifying dragon transformation. It is a striking look that stands out on the battlefield, especially during night matches when the island gets extra dark.
Alongside her is Hades, the fast-talking, hot-tempered ruler of the Underworld from the 1997 animated film Hercules. Epic Games had a unique challenge here. The game already has its own original Hades skin from a previous Greek mythology-themed season. To set this version apart, the design team went all-in on the Disney aesthetic. This version of Hades features his signature blue fire hair, which actually flares up and turns red when players get eliminations. It is a clever reactive feature that classic Disney fans will love.
Classic Pirates and Spooky Upgrades
Rounding out the Disney trio is Captain Hook from Peter Pan. He arrives with his signature crimson coat, feathered hat, and a gold hook that replaced his left hand. His pickaxe is a sleek rapier, and his back bling is a ticking chest that pays homage to his eternal nemesis, the crocodile. Having these three distinct villains gives players a lot of variety, whether they prefer dark sorcery, underworld flames, or old-school pirate swagger.
But Fortnitemares is about more than just shop skins. Epic Games is also introducing thematic map updates to match the Disney presence. A portion of the island has been transformed into a twisted, thorny forest reminiscent of Maleficent's domain. Dark magic altars are scattered across the map, allowing players to briefly wield powers inspired by the villains, like summoning green fire or launching fiery underworld projectiles.
A Growing Corporate Alliance
This collaboration is a direct result of Disney's massive $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games. The two entertainment giants are working on a multi-year project to create a massive, persistent digital universe connected to Fortnite. While that project is still years away, smaller crossovers like this show how the partnership will feed into the main game in the meantime.
In past years, Fortnitemares focused heavily on horror movie icons like Michael Myers, Billy the Puppet, or classic monsters. Shifting the focus to Disney Villains gives the event a slightly different flavor. It is spooky, but family-friendly, appealing to both older players who grew up with these films and younger kids who know them from modern spin-offs.
Fortnitemares 2026 is scheduled to run through early November. The Disney skins will rotate through the in-game Item Shop starting this week, both as individual purchases and as part of a discounted bundle. Epic has also teased a few surprise guests later in the month, so players should keep their eyes on the item shop as Halloween approaches.
