The air is getting cooler, the leaves are turning, and Epic Games is getting ready to scare the daylights out of its player base. The developer just revealed its lineup for Fortnitemares 2026, and it looks like one of the most ambitious Halloween events in the game’s decade-long history.
This year, the headliner is a horror icon fans have been demanding for years. Ghostface, the masked killer from the Scream franchise, is finally joining the battle royale.
Rumors about the collaboration have floated around the community for seasons. Now, Epic has confirmed the slasher will arrive in the Item Shop right at the start of the event. The Ghostface outfit features the iconic, flowing black robes and the haunting white mask that defined 90s horror. For players who want a bit of variety, the skin includes an alternate ‘chrome’ style and a glowing neon variant that stands out in night matches.

Classic Monsters Join the Fray
But Epic isn’t just focusing on modern slasher films. The developer is also dipping into the golden age of cinema with a massive Universal Monsters crossover.
This year’s lineup introduces Dracula and the Creature from the Black Lagoon to the game. These are not just generic vampires and fish-men. Epic worked closely with Universal to preserve the likenesses of the classic movie designs while giving them a distinct Fortnite twist. Dracula comes with an elegant, high-collared cape that doubles as a glider, while the Creature features textured scales that shimmer when wet.
They join previous Universal collaborations like Frankenstein’s Monster and the Mummy, making Fortnite the ultimate digital playground for classic horror enthusiasts.
Alongside the licensed crossovers, Epic is refreshing its own roster of characters with some creepy, home-grown designs. This year’s standout is ‘Patchwork Peely,’ a stitched-together, Frankenstein-style version of the game’s famous banana mascot. What is a Fortnitemares event without some gameplay changes? The Island is getting its annual spooky makeover.
Starting mid-October, a thick, purple fog will blanket the map during night cycles, dropping visibility and forcing players into close-quarters combat. A new point of interest called ‘The Cryptic Castle’ will appear on the northern hills, filled with traps, hidden passages, and high-tier loot guarded by hostile ghostly NPCs.
The weapon pool is getting a shakeup too. The classic Pumpkin Launcher returns, firing explosive jack-o’-lanterns that destroy enemy structures in seconds. A new weapon, the ‘Stake Shotgun,’ deals extra damage to the supernatural creatures roaming the map.
Speaking of monsters, Horde Rush is back. The popular co-op mode challenges squads of four to survive waves of Cube Monsters while moving across a shrinking map. This year, Epic has added a terrifying new boss at the final stage: a giant, shadow-infused demon that requires serious teamwork to take down.
The Fortnitemares 2026 event is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, October 13, and will run through November 3. Players can expect weekly challenges that unlock free cosmetic rewards, including a creepy new loading screen, a bat-themed weapon wrap, and a pumpkin-shaped back bling.
