Fortnitemares 2026: Disney Villains and Horror Modes Arrive
Epic Games launches Fortnitemares 2026, introducing Disney Villains skins and a terrifying new survival-horror mode that strips away building.
Fortnite’s annual Halloween event is always a massive draw. But this year’s iteration feels different. Epic Games has officially launched Fortnitemares 2026, and the stakes are much higher. This time, the publisher is leaning heavily into its multi-billion-dollar partnership with Disney, bringing some of cinema’s most famous villains to the battle royale island.
It isn’t just about buying skins, either. Epic has introduced dedicated survival-horror elements that completely change how the game plays after dark. The fog is thick. The woods are creepy. And this time, you cannot build your way out of trouble.
Disney’s Darkest Icons Join the Loop
The headline attraction of Fortnitemares 2026 is the arrival of the Disney Villains. While Fortnite has featured Disney heroes and Marvel bad guys before, this update marks the first time classic animated antagonists have taken center stage. Players can now purchase or unlock skins for Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil.
These are not simple re-skins. Each character comes with custom animations and reactive elements. Maleficent, for instance, sports a glider that mimics her iconic dragon form. Captain Hook features a unique traversal emote where he nervously looks around for his ticking crocodile nemesis. The attention to detail is superb, capturing the theatrical villainy of the original films while keeping the classic Fortnite aesthetic intact.
A New Turn Toward Survival-Horror
For those tired of the standard battle royale loop, Epic has added a terrifying new limited-time mode called “Wicked Run.” This is where the survival-horror mechanics shine. Developed in collaboration with horror game veterans, the mode strips players of their building abilities and limits their inventory to just three slots.
“We wanted to see how far we could stretch the limits of tension in Fortnite,” says Saxs Persson, Executive Vice President at Epic Games. “With ‘Wicked Run,’ we are stripping away the safety nets. You cannot build a fort when you hear something in the woods. You just have to run.”
In this mode, players find themselves trapped in a dense, fog-covered forest with minimal lighting. They must scavenge for fuel to power generators and escape the map. Meanwhile, AI-controlled versions of the Disney Villains stalk them through the trees. Cruella’s hounds bark in the distance, and the shadow of Maleficent’s crow follows players from above. Every footstep echoes, and the music swells dynamically whenever a threat draws near.
Map Transformation: The Desolate Keep
The island itself has undergone a dramatic transformation. The center of the map is now home to “The Desolate Keep,” a massive, gothic castle that replaces the former Reckless Railways point of interest. The castle is surrounded by dead trees and glowing green bogs. Players who venture inside will find high-tier loot but must navigate traps, moving walls, and aggressive gargoyles.
Environmental changes also affect standard matches. A thick fog rolls across the island as the match progresses, drastically reducing visibility. This makes long-range sniping nearly impossible, forcing players into frantic, close-quarters combat. To help survive the dark, Epic has unvaulted the Pumpkin Launcher and introduced the “Vampiric Stake Shotgun,” which heals players slightly for every pellet that hits an enemy.
Wicked Rewards and Daily Challenges
No Fortnitemares event is complete without a list of free cosmetics to earn. This year, players can complete daily “Wicked Challenges” to unlock themed rewards. These include a poisoned apple back bling, a magic mirror wrap, and a glider styled after Captain Hook’s pirate ship, the Jolly Roger. Players who complete all fifteen challenges before November 3 will unlock the exclusive “Shadow Maleficent” loading screen.
The feedback from the community has been swift. Social media is already flooded with clips of players getting jump-scared by Cruella de Vil in the foggy woods. By blending childhood nostalgia with genuine tension, Epic Games has delivered one of the most memorable Halloween events in years.
Fortnitemares 2026 is live now across all platforms, including PC, consoles, and cloud gaming services. The event will run through November 3, giving players plenty of time to face their fears—and their favorite villains.
