Fortnite Players Revolt Over Costly Fortnitemares Monsters Bundle
Fortnite’s interactive Universal Monsters bundle for Fortnitemares has sparked community outrage over its steep 4,500 V-Bucks price tag.
Sticker Shock on the Island
Halloween has officially taken over the Fortnite island, but the scariest thing in this year’s Fortnitemares update isn’t the roaming undead. It is the price tag in the Item Shop. Epic Games recently debuted its highly anticipated Universal Monsters collaboration. The pack features legendary horror figures like Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the Mummy. This time, Epic added a modern twist: these are “interactive” skins that change and react dynamically to active gameplay.
The initial hype quickly evaporated when the shop refreshed. The complete Universal Monsters Interactive Bundle is listed at a whopping 4,500 V-Bucks. In real-world currency, that translates to nearly $40. For many players, that is simply too steep for a collection of digital cosmetics.
The Cost of Nostalgia
For players wanting to buy the skins individually, the pricing is not much friendlier. Single character outfits are priced at 2,000 V-Bucks each. Usually, Fortnite’s premium crossover skins land around 1,500 to 1,800 V-Bucks. Epic appears to be charging a hefty premium for the new “interactive” features built into these specific models.
These interactive elements are definitely unique. Dracula’s cape tethers into bat wings during skydives, and his eyes glow brighter with every elimination you secure. Frankenstein’s Monster sparks with electricity whenever you consume shield potions. Despite the cool visual effects, the community is not convinced the features justify the price hikes.

“I was incredibly excited for this drop,” one player shared on a popular Reddit thread. “But 4,500 V-Bucks is absurd. That is literally the cost of a full, newly released indie game. I cannot justify spending that much on three character skins.”
Creeping Inflation in the Item Shop
This community backlash does not exist in a vacuum. Epic Games adjusted V-Bucks pricing globally last year to combat inflation. This means players are already paying more real-world cash to load up their accounts. When Epic launches historically expensive bundles on top of those higher base rates, the community’s frustration spikes rapidly. On X, several prominent Fortnite creators noted that the cost of holiday events has steadily climbed over the last two years, making it harder for younger players to join the fun.
Many fans have pointed out how different this feels compared to previous years. During past Fortnitemares events, classic spooky skins and crossovers like Michael Myers or Jack Skellington were accessible to casual players. The items were reasonably priced and often came with challenges to earn free matching cosmetics. This year’s premium, highly reactive approach feels exclusive to players with deep pockets.
- Dracula Skin: 2,000 V-Bucks (includes reactive bat glider)
- Frankenstein’s Monster: 2,000 V-Bucks (includes electric emote)
- The Mummy: 1,800 V-Bucks (includes ancient wrap)
- Complete Interactive Bundle: 4,500 V-Bucks
Will Epic Games Respond?
Historically, Epic Games rarely drops prices in the middle of an active event. Doing so would anger the players who already purchased the bundle at the higher price point. However, loud community feedback has occasionally pushed the developer to offer make-good bundles, free accessory add-ons, or additional V-Bucks refunds in the past. Streamers have speculated that Epic might bundle future cosmetic sets differently if sales for this horror collection fall short of internal targets.
For now, players who want to celebrate Fortnitemares with these classic cinematic monsters will have to make a tough choice. They can empty their virtual wallets for the shiny new reactive tech, or stick to their older, cheaper Halloween favorites and let these classic monsters haunt the shop shelves instead.
