Epic Games rolls out permanent Star Wars and Marvel survival-crafting worlds inside Fortnite, launching its massive Disney partnership.

A New Era for Fortnite

Fortnite is no longer just a battle royale game. It has become a sprawling digital universe. Today, Epic Games took its biggest step yet toward that future. The developer officially launched the first phase of its persistent Disney universe inside the game. Players can now jump into dedicated, permanent survival-crafting worlds based on Marvel and Star Wars.

This is not a temporary crossover. In the past, players got used to brief, seasonal events. Those vanished after a few weeks. These new worlds are different. They are permanent, living spaces designed to grow over the coming years. It marks the first tangible fruit of Disney’s massive $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games, which was announced earlier this year.

Building in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

The new Star Wars survival-crafting experience drops players onto a wild, uncharted planet. If you have played Lego Fortnite, the core loop will feel familiar, but the atmosphere is entirely new. You start with nothing. Quickly, you must gather wood and stone to build a basic shelter. Soon, you are upgrading your technology to craft high-tech blasters, thermal detonators, and even rudimentary lightsabers.

The game’s crafting system allows you to build specialized workbenches. These benches let you assemble recognizable technology. You can build landspeeders to cross the desert sands quickly, or construct a communication tower to contact friendly NPCs. The environment itself is hostile. Wild beasts roam the forests, and extreme weather events like sandstorms can tear down poorly constructed shelters. Imperial patrols roam the wilderness, too. Players have to defend their settlements from stormtroopers. You can build a quiet farm on a forest planet. Or you can construct a massive rebel outpost complete with defense turrets. The world is procedurally generated, so every player’s map is unique.

Surviving the Marvel Multiverse

On the Marvel side of things, players find themselves in a world shattered by cosmic anomalies. Danger is everywhere. You can harvest materials to build structures inspired by Stark Industries or Wakandan architecture. Crafting is central here. Instead of magic spells or basic steel swords, players can build elemental weapons and energy shield generators to keep hostile forces at bay.

Get Know Inastant Reward

The building mechanics let you utilize different architectural styles. You can mix high-tech carbon fiber panels with heavy concrete blocks. It allows for creative designs, like a replica of the Avengers Mansion or a hidden base nestled inside a hollowed-out mountain. Epic has integrated a complex physics system, so large structures require proper structural support. If a giant monster attacks your base’s foundation, the whole building could come crashing down. Minions belonging to Doctor Doom and other classic villains wander the ruined hills, guarding valuable resource nodes. Defeating them requires smart tactical planning and solid gear.

The Multi-Year Vision Takes Shape

Epic Games designed these worlds to be deeply social. Up to eight players can share a single world, working together to build massive cities, farm resources, and clear out dangerous dungeons. The progression is slow and rewarding. It is a major shift from the fast-paced, twitch-reflex shooting of Fortnite’s traditional battle royale mode.

When Disney CEO Bob Iger and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced their multi-year partnership, many wondered what a ‘persistent universe’ would actually look like. This launch gives us the first clear answer. Disney wants a space where fans can not only watch their favorite characters but live among them, create their own stories, and build personal digital spaces.

For Epic Games, this is another step toward the metaverse. By integrating these massive IPs directly into Fortnite’s launcher, Epic keeps its millions of daily active users inside its ecosystem. Players can swap from a high-stakes battle royale match to a relaxing afternoon building a Stark-tech cabin with their friends. They never have to close the game. This is only the beginning. Epic Games has already hinted that other Disney properties, including Pixar and Avatar, will eventually get their own dedicated spaces. For now, Star Wars and Marvel fans have two massive, permanent worlds to explore, build, and survive in. The portal is open, and the building has begun.
