Epic Games Partners with Blumhouse for Scary Fortnitemares 2026
Epic Games is teaming up with horror powerhouse Blumhouse for Fortnitemares 2026, delivering a custom UEFN-driven campaign and terrifying new skins.
Fortnite has always done Halloween well. Every October, players expect spooky map changes, zombie-like husks, and a handful of licensed horror skins. But for Fortnitemares 2026, Epic Games is doing something vastly more ambitious.
The battle royale developer has locked in a partnership with Blumhouse, the powerhouse studio behind modern horror hits like Get Out, M3GAN, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Rather than just dropping a few cosmetic items into the shop, the two companies are building a dedicated, multi-hour horror campaign.
A Real Game Inside Fortnite
This entire playable campaign will run on Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). It represents one of the most significant steps Epic has taken to turn Fortnite from a simple shooter into a massive, multi-genre gaming platform.
According to internal sources, the project is being treated like a standalone indie horror title. Players won’t just be running around the colorful Battle Royale island. Instead, they will load into a completely custom, photorealistic environment designed to look like a decaying American suburb. The campaign will feature first-person gameplay, dynamic atmospheric lighting, and custom sound design built to keep players on edge.
“We wanted to see how far we could stretch the limits of UEFN,” says Sarah Chen, a lead producer at Epic Games. “Working with Blumhouse allowed us to focus on pacing, tension, and narrative structure. It is a real game. It just happens to live inside Fortnite.”
Cinematic Terror Meets Co-Op Gameplay
The story itself will center on a group of teenagers investigating a series of strange disappearances tied to a mysterious local corporation. Players can tackle the mystery alone or team up with up to three friends in cooperative play.
Blumhouse Games, the interactive division of the film studio, is directly supervising the narrative design. They want to ensure the gameplay matches the psychological dread of their best cinematic work.
Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse, expressed excitement about the crossover’s potential. “Fortnite has a massive, highly engaged audience that loves interactive storytelling,” Blum said. “Bringing our style of tension and horror to this platform allows us to reach players in a way we never could through film alone. It is interactive cinema, built for a generation that wants to live the story.”
Exclusive Blumhouse Skins Hit the Item Shop
Of course, it would not be a Fortnitemares event without some high-profile digital outfits. Epic is introducing several highly anticipated skins to the Item Shop.
The headline cosmetic is M3GAN, the viral AI doll, complete with a built-in emote that recreates her famous hallway dance. Players can also unlock skins based on the cult-classic The Purge series, alongside characters from Blumhouse’s recently released video game Fear the Spotlight.
The partnership highlights a broader trend in the gaming industry. As development costs for standalone titles continue to rise, major brands are looking at platforms like Fortnite as viable alternatives for launching high-quality games. With UEFN, creators have access to powerful tools that rival traditional game engines, but with a massive, pre-existing player base ready to play on day one.
Epic’s strategy is clear. By bringing in premium partners like Blumhouse, they can offer experiences that appeal to older, more mature gamers who might have grown tired of standard battle royale loops. This new campaign is designed to prove that Fortnite can be scary, serious, and deeply atmospheric.
The Blumhouse Fortnitemares event is scheduled to launch in mid-October 2026. Epic plans to release the campaign in three weekly chapters, giving players plenty of reasons to log back in throughout the Halloween season.
