Epic Games announces Fortnitemares 2026, featuring Castle Dracula, Universal Monsters, and terrifying new survival-horror fog mechanics.

Epic Games is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Halloween event. Fortnitemares 2026 is officially on the horizon, and it’s shaping up to be the most terrifying iteration of the seasonal event to date. Instead of the usual colorful jump scares, Epic is going old-school. They’re partnering with Universal Pictures to bring the classic Universal Monsters to the island, alongside some surprisingly brutal survival-horror gameplay mechanics that will change how the Battle Royale mode plays.

Classic Monsters Take Over the Island

The centerpiece of the collaboration is the arrival of cinema’s most famous beasts. Players can expect high-fidelity skins for Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, and the Wolf Man. But these iconic characters aren’t just sitting in the Item Shop. They’re taking over the map.

A massive new point of interest, simply called Castle Dracula, has materialized on the northern cliffs of the island, replacing the sunny villas of previous seasons. The castle is a multi-layered labyrinth of dark corridors, hidden dungeons, and gothic architecture. It is also home to Dracula himself, who serves as a hostile NPC boss. Defeating him won’t be easy, but doing so rewards players with the legendary Vampiric Claws, a mythic melee weapon that drains health from opponents with every strike.

“We wanted to do more than just sell skins this year,” says Marcus Vance, Lead Gameplay Designer at Epic Games. “We wanted to capture the actual dread of those classic films. When you step into the fog, we want you to feel like you’re being hunted.”

Surviving the Shrouded Mist

That dread is driven by a new dynamic weather system called The Shrouded Mist. During matches, a thick, rolling fog will randomly sweep across the island. When the mist rolls in, visibility drops to near zero. Minimaps are disabled, and the typical spatial audio cues are muffled, making it incredibly easy for enemies to sneak up on unsuspecting squads.

To make matters worse, the mist brings out The Stalkers. These are a new class of fast, aggressive AI monsters that hunt by sound. If you sprint or fire an unsuppressed weapon while the fog is active, these creatures will swarm your position. This forces players to make a tough choice: do you use quiet melee weapons and move slowly, or do you risk shooting your way out and alerting every player and monster nearby?

A Hardcore Survival Mode

Epic is also introducing a limited-time playlist called Midnight Survival. In this mode, the game’s standard building mechanics are heavily restricted, and resources are scarce. Ammo drops are cut by 50 percent, and chests are much harder to find. Instead, players have to rely on new ground loot like the Stake Launcher—a slow-firing, high-damage weapon that is particularly effective against AI enemies—and Holy Water Grenades, which create a lingering pool of light that heals allies and burns monsters.

Even the classic loot pool is getting a spooky remix. The beloved Pumpkin Launcher makes its return, but with a twist: its rockets now leave a trail of burning embers that block vision.

The Hunt is On

The Wolf Man is also roaming the wilderness outside Castle Dracula. Unlike typical bosses who stay in one spot, the Wolf Man actively tracks players who have taken damage. If you’re low on health and bleeding, he can smell you from hundreds of meters away. It adds a frantic layer of tension to mid-game rotations. You can’t just hide in a bush and heal. You have to keep moving.

Fortnitemares 2026 is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, October 13, following the release of the v34.10 update. The event will run for three weeks, wrapping up on November 3. Epic has confirmed that players who complete a series of in-game challenges during the event will unlock several free cosmetics, including a vintage cinema lobby track and a bat-themed glider.

Whether you’re a classic horror buff or just looking for a tougher challenge, this year’s event promises to turn the familiar island into a living nightmare. Just make sure to keep your flashlight handy.
