Fortnite Server Downtime: Fortnitemares 2026 Schedule
Find out when Fortnite servers go offline today for the Fortnitemares 2026 update, how long downtime will last, and what to expect.
Spooky season has officially arrived in Epic Games’ hit battle royale. The highly anticipated Fortnitemares 2026 update is finally here, bringing creepy map changes, terrifying new skins, and the return of fan-favorite Halloween gameplay mechanics. But before you can dive into the fog, you will have to wait out the scheduled server maintenance.
Epic Games has confirmed that servers will go dark today to prepare for the massive patch. If you are planning your morning gaming session, you will need to adjust your schedule. Here is everything you need to know about the downtime, when matchmaking disables, and when you can start playing again.
When Do Fortnite Servers Go Offline Today?
Matchmaking for Fortnite will be disabled starting at 3:30 AM ET (12:30 AM PT / 8:30 AM BST) today. Epic Games does this to prevent players from getting stuck in a match when the servers officially shut down. If you are still in a lobby at this time, you will be kicked to the main menu.
The full server downtime begins exactly thirty minutes later, at 4:00 AM ET (1:00 AM PT / 9:00 AM BST). At this point, the game will be completely offline. You will not be able to log in, access the Item Shop, or play any game modes, including Creative and Save the World.
Downtime Schedule Across Different Time Zones
To make sure you do not miss the launch, check the server shutdown times for your local region below:
- US East Coast: 4:00 AM ET
- US West Coast: 1:00 AM PT
- United Kingdom: 9:00 AM BST
- Europe: 10:00 AM CEST
- Australia: 6:00 PM AEST
How Long Will Matchmaking Be Down?
Epic Games has not announced an exact end time for the maintenance. However, major seasonal updates like Fortnitemares usually take longer than standard weekly patches. Typically, players can expect the servers to remain offline for roughly three to four hours.
If everything goes smoothly, the servers should start coming back online around 7:00 AM ET (4:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM BST). Keep in mind that login queues can be quite long immediately after a major update as millions of players try to connect at the same time. If technical difficulties arise during the database migration, Epic may extend the maintenance by an hour or two.
What to Expect from Fortnitemares 2026
This is not just a simple bug-fix update. Fortnitemares is one of the most celebrated events in the Fortnite calendar, and developers are pulling out all the stops this year. While Epic keeps concrete details under wraps until the patch notes drop, several leaks and teasers have given us a clear picture of what is coming.
First, expect a dramatic map overhaul. Eerie purple fog will likely blanket parts of the island, and several points of interest will receive a haunted makeover. Rumors suggest we might see the return of the classic Horde Rush limited-time mode, where players team up to fight off waves of Cube Monsters.
Weapons are also getting a spooky upgrade. The iconic Pumpkin Launcher is set to return to the active loot pool, alongside Witch Brooms for quick aerial traversal. Dataminers have also hinted at brand-new Halloween-themed weapons and collaborative mythic items from famous horror movie franchises.
Prepare Your System for a Large Patch File
Because of the sheer amount of content being added, the patch file size will be significantly larger than usual. If you want to jump into the action as soon as the servers go live, we highly recommend turning on auto-updates on your console or PC.
Players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC should expect a download size of anywhere between 12 GB and 18 GB. Nintendo Switch and mobile players will likely see a smaller, compressed update, though installation might take a bit longer due to hardware limitations. Make sure you have enough free storage space cleared out before the download begins.
How to Check Fortnite’s Live Server Status
If you are waiting impatiently at your desk, you can track the status of the update in real-time. Epic Games maintains an official public status page that lists the health of all their online services. Alternatively, you can follow the official @FortniteStatus account on X (formerly Twitter). They post immediate updates the moment the servers go offline and the exact second they are open to the public again.
