Fortnite Debuts Custom ‘Build-Your-Own-Bundle’ Shop Feature

Epic Games rolls out a highly requested custom bundle feature in Fortnite ahead of Fortnitemares 2026, offering big discounts on Halloween skins.

Fortnite players have spent years begging Epic Games for more control over how they spend their V-Bucks. That wish has finally been granted. Just days before the highly anticipated Fortnitemares 2026 event kicks off, a massive update has quietly rolled out to the Fortnite Item Shop. It is called the “Build-Your-Own-Bundle” feature.

This new tool lets players curate their own discounted packages of spooky cosmetics, giving players far more control over how they spend their cash. Instead of forcing players to buy pre-made sets that might contain items they do not want, Epic is handing over the keys.

Tailor-Made Terror: How the New System Works

The mechanics of the new system are surprisingly straightforward. When you navigate to the newly designed section of the Item Shop, you are greeted with a grid of classic Fortnitemares skins, pickaxes, gliders, and emotes from previous years. Players can select between three and five items to add to their custom cart.

As you add more items, the discount climbs.

Choosing three items triggers a baseline 20% discount on the total V-Bucks cost. Bump that up to four items, and the savings rise to 30%. If you fill all five slots, Epic slashes the price by a massive 40%.

“This is easily the best shop update in years,” says veteran player and dataminer Lucas “ShiinaBR” Albert in an online post reacting to the launch. “Before, you had to buy a 2,500 V-Buck bundle just to get one skin and a glider you actually liked. Now, you can pair the Skull Trooper with a random Halloween pickaxe from a completely different set and still get a discount.”

The system also respects what you already own. If you already have one of the skins in your custom combination, the game adjusts the pricing dynamically, ensuring you do not pay twice for the same content or miss out on the bundle-tier discount.

Classic Skins Take Center Stage

Epic is using Fortnitemares 2026 as the ultimate testing ground for this feature. The initial lineup of eligible cosmetics reads like a history book of Fortnite’s spookiest seasons.

Players can mix and match legendary outfits like the Ghoul Trooper, Shadow Midas, and the Pumpkin Head. Even newer favorites, like the Resident Evil collaboration skins and various universal monsters, have been spotted in the rotating custom bundle pool.

But there is a catch. Not every skin in the shop can be thrown into a custom bundle. Epic has limited the selection to a rotating pool of “classic” Halloween items, which changes every 48 hours. This keeps the shop fresh while preventing players from instantly bundling the newest, rarest crossover skins the second they hit the store.

A Smart Move for the Virtual Economy

For Epic Games, this is not just a holiday gesture. It is a calculated business move.

The Fortnite Item Shop has faced criticism over the last year. Players frequently complained about repetitive rotations, overpriced individual skins, and cluttered layouts. By introducing customizable bundles, Epic gives players a sense of agency. It coaxes them into spending V-Bucks they might have otherwise hoarded, simply because the discount feels too good to pass up.

It also solves a major pain point for casual players. Many users only have enough V-Bucks for one major purchase a season. Under the old rules, they were locked out of bundles. Now, they can build a smaller, cheaper bundle that fits their exact budget.

What Lies Ahead for Fortnitemares 2026

The custom bundles are just the opening act for what is shaping up to be a massive October. Fortnitemares 2026 is rumored to bring a completely revamped loot pool, a new boss fight in the center of the map, and perhaps some surprise horror icon collaborations.

But for now, the real action is happening in the store menu. Players are busy calculating the most efficient ways to stretch their V-Bucks. Whether this feature becomes a permanent fixture of the Fortnite Item Shop remains to be seen, but its successful debut suggests that the era of rigid, take-it-or-leave-it bundles might finally be over.
