Fortnite Item Shop Crashes as FNAF Skins Finally Debut

Huge demand for the long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s skins caused severe lag and checkout errors in the Fortnite Item Shop.

It finally happened, but the launch was anything but smooth. After years of online rumors, endless fan concepts, and teasers, the Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronics officially landed in Fortnite for the Fortnitemares 2026 event. But the massive excitement quickly turned into a digital traffic jam. Within seconds of the Item Shop update, Epic Games’ servers buckled under the weight of millions of players trying to purchase the iconic horror characters.

The shop broke. Players trying to load the store menu were met with blank screens, infinite loading wheels, and frustrating error messages. Those who did manage to select Freddy Fazbear or Foxy found themselves stuck at the checkout screen. Many reported that their V-Bucks were deducted from their accounts, yet the purchased skins failed to appear in their lockers. Others got hit with instant purchase failure screens.

Servers Struggle Under Massive Demand

The crossover is easily one of Fortnite’s biggest releases in recent memory. Epic Games’ servers, which usually handle millions of concurrent players with ease, simply could not cope with the sheer volume of transactions hitting the database at the exact same millisecond. Social media quickly filled with screenshots of error codes and frozen menus as players scrambled to secure their skins before the game’s daily reset.

The highly anticipated collab features Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy as fully playable outfits. They even come with built-in traversal emotes that mimic their robotic, jerky movements from the classic indie horror games. Players can purchase individual character skins for 1,500 V-Bucks each, or grab the entire “Fazbear & Friends” bundle for a discounted price of 3,200 V-Bucks. The bundle also includes exclusive back blings, including the infamous Cupboard Cupcake and a neon pizza box.

Epic Games Responds to the Outage

It did not take long for Epic Games to notice the technical meltdown. The official Fortnite Status account on X quickly posted an acknowledgment of the issues. The developers confirmed they were actively investigating reports of slow loading times and purchase errors in the Item Shop.

Epic urged players to remain patient and avoid clicking the buy button repeatedly. “If your V-Bucks were deducted but your items haven’t appeared in your locker, please do not attempt to repurchase the bundle,” the support team advised. “We are actively working to deliver your items and resolve the shop lag.”

A Long-Awaited Dream for Fans

Despite the severe server hiccups, the community’s mood remains incredibly energetic. Five Nights at Freddy’s has sat at the top of Fortnite crossover wishlist polls for over half a decade. The fact that the animatronics arrived during Fortnitemares 2026 makes this seasonal update one of the most successful Epic has launched in years, despite the launch day bugs.

  • Freddy Fazbear skin comes with a gold-plated style variant.
  • Chica features a retro arcade cabinet back bling.
  • Foxy has a pirate hook pickaxe option.

For players currently sitting in front of a frozen screen, the best advice is to wait it out. Epic Games usually resolves shop congestion within a few hours of a major launch. Logging out of the game and logging back in has helped some players force their missing purchases to load into their inventories. However, caution is advised to prevent duplicate charges or stuck transactions.
