Fortnitemares 2026: Silent Hill Collab and Rogue-Lite Mode Live Now
Epic Games launches Fortnitemares 2026 with a terrifying Silent Hill crossover and a challenging new rogue-lite PvE mode called Hollow Depths.
A Grim Turn for the Island
Fortnite is no stranger to spooky season, but this year’s Halloween event feels distinctly more menacing. Epic Games has officially launched Fortnitemares 2026. Instead of the usual lighthearted cartoon ghosts and pumpkin launchers, the developers are steering the ship straight into psychological horror. This year features a major partnership with Konami’s iconic Silent Hill franchise, alongside an entirely new PvE mode that changes how the game is played.
The centerpiece of the update is “Hollow Depths,” a rogue-lite survival mode. It is a massive departure from standard Battle Royale play. Designed for squads or solo survivors, the mode drops players into a shifting, procedurally generated labyrinth shrouded in dense fog. You start each run with a gray-tier pistol and zero building materials. The goal is simple: survive ten increasingly difficult floors, fight off horrific husks, and defeat a boss waiting at the bottom.
How Hollow Depths Works
Every room cleared rewards players with a currency called “Memory Shards.” These shards can be spent at mysterious wells to buy randomized perks. You might get a 15% boost to movement speed, explosive ammunition, or a passive heal that triggers when you take shield damage. But there is a catch. If your squad wipes, you lose everything. Death resets your progress completely, forcing you to start from the first floor with nothing but your default pistol.
“We wanted to capture the feeling of true survival horror,” says Marcus Vance, Lead Gameplay Designer at Epic Games. “Fortnite players are used to feeling powerful. They build towering forts and carry legendary weapons. Hollow Depths strips that security away. It makes you feel vulnerable again. You have to make tough decisions about your build on the fly, and every corner you turn could be your last.”
The final boss of Hollow Depths is a terrifying amalgamation of classic Fortnite husks and industrial rust. Dubbed “The Keeper of the Core,” this boss requires precise coordination to defeat. Players must dodge sweeping area-of-effect attacks while managing waves of smaller enemies that spawn from the fog. Defeating the boss unlocks the highly coveted “Fogbound Savior” lobby track, a haunting orchestral piece that captures the gloomy mood of this year’s event.
Silent Hill Takes Over the Shop and the Map
The partnership with Silent Hill brings some of horror’s most recognizable imagery to the game. Players can now purchase the Pyramid Head outfit in the item shop. The skin comes with the massive Great Knife, which functions as a harvesting tool. A Cheryl Mason skin is also available, featuring an unlockable style based on her appearance in Silent Hill 3.
The collaboration goes beyond cosmetics, though. The Battle Royale island itself has been altered. A thick, oppressive fog has rolled across the map, cutting maximum visibility down to just a few dozen meters. Epic has also overhauled the ambient sound design for the duration of the event. The cheerful music tracks at named locations have been replaced by low, droning hums, distant sirens, and the unsettling sound of metal scraping against concrete.
Free Rewards and Event Duration
Players do not have to spend V-Bucks to enjoy the holiday festivities. Epic has introduced a list of free challenges tied to both Hollow Depths and standard Battle Royale matches. Completing these challenges unlocks several exclusive spooky items, including:
- The “Rust and Ruin” glider, which looks like a decaying iron gate.
- The “Static Static” back bling, a rusted pocket radio that emits quiet static screeches when enemies are nearby.
- The “Red Pyramid” weapon wrap, adding a blood-spattered, metallic finish to any firearm.
- Various spooky loading screens and spray tags.
Fortnitemares 2026 is live now and will run through November 3, 2026. Whether you are looking to test your grit in the brutal rogue-lite corridors of Hollow Depths or just want to terrify your opponents as Pyramid Head, there is plenty of nightmare fuel to go around this season. Drop in, keep your flashlight ready, and try not to lose your way in the fog.
